battery delete

Been Around the Block
does anyone know how to make a "black box"
that will replace the battery?
I know I need a capacitor in there but i dont know what kind or what else is in the black box.
cheers

I don't know anything about a black box, but I replaced my battery with a capacitor.
I got a 50 volt 10,000 uF capacitor and wired it in place of the battery.
It hasn't run yet so I can't tell you if it works, but I think it will.
My understanding was that you simply replace the battery with a capacitor (in terms of wiring). My stuff is located in a black box under the seat though (kill switch, regulator, fuse, capacitor).

Wire this - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACCEL-BATTERY-ELIMINATOR-CAPACITOR-HARLEY-BIG-TWIN-XL-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem56435f2ba3QQitemZ370497498019QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories - in place of the battery, using high quality wire and terminal ends.
-Mike sure its grounded correctly, and there is NOTHING metal that can come into contact with the terminals on the capacitor.
-Mike sure its mounted somewhere that air can flow over it.
-Get rid of the electric leg.
-Install an inline kill switch so that NO lights are on when youre starting the bike.
-Replace all turn signal and brake lights with LED, and the headlight with an H4.
-Itll take a few kicks to charge the capacitor to the point where it will discharge and start the bike, but for all intents and purposes it should work.

My bike is kickstart only and I just used an 11 cell R/C car battery. It fits really nicely under the middle bracket on the CL350. And no, the single wire tie isn't how I ended up mounting it. I ended up using a little spit and happy thoughts. ;D

Im a fan of duct tape and bailing wire. I like your idea. Im having trouble finding a small battery like yours. Id like a small gel unit but cant find one.

How much?? A Radio Shack purchase?

I got mine from cheapbatterypacks.com. I just got an 11 cell NiMH pack. It's working well so far and my electrical engineer friend said you kind of need a load on the alternator and a big capacitator :) doesn't provide that.

The best I could find on ebay were 2 panasonic capacitors with the specs I listed for 13.50 with free shipping. I haven't looked at radio shack for those, but I bought my switches there and I'm not happy with them.

I'm willing to bet that the "battery eliminator" ones that cost 50 are just normal capacitors that are covered to be more durable. But I don't know for sure, and my bike hasn't run with the capacitor due to the fact that I'm re-wiring the bike. I should finish power to the coils tonight or tomorrow so I'll try to start it up and let you know how it goes. I've got old shitty mismatched coils though so who knows if it will work or not.

EDIT: do you think the regulator and headlight and coils provide enough load? I mean the way I understand it the battery doesn't provide resistance (well minimal anyway).

The accel capacitors are for early HDs from the 20s through the 50s. If they can run a 45" v-twin with a 100 year old charging system, a 70s era Japanese bike should be fine.
