Battery draining from Honda cb360 when key is on ON position.

I have a Honda CB360 that I've been working on for a few months now but I can't figure out why the battery drains so quickly when the key is on the ON position but the motor isn't running. I put a volt meter on the battery and when I turn the key on the battery drains from 12v to dead in a bout 25 seconds. I checked all the wiring, nothing is pinched or stripped touching the framing. Does anyone know what it could be?

How old is the battery? Have it tested as a easy starting point. I'd think that if it was holding a full charge and being completely drained in 30 seconds, something would be getting very hot and bothered somewhere and you'd see the smoke and flames.

How are you charging it? I'd take it down to your local friendly automotive store where they more often than not test batteries for free.

That battery has to be toast. Like Tim said, if there was any energy in that battery, draining it that quickly would set things on fire and the battery would explode!

12V is actually a battery already discharged to 25%. A Battery at full charge will read at least 12.6V.

Thanks guys! Not sure if it's a switch problem or a something else but on the right control handle is two switches, a red toggle switch with ON in the middle and OFF on the top and bottom and a on/off switch on the bottom of the control. When the key is on the lights and everything turn on. The red switch is OFF but when I switch it ON the battery starts to drain fast. I was just wondering do you guys or anyone know a simple flow chart of electricity from the battery. Could it be the coils or stator are draining the battery when the key is just on the ON position....

Really, I wouldn't even worry about that until you have a good battery. Like Tim and ADC said, it sound exactly like your battery is shot. Go test/replace it.

Okay. So I've bought the relay from http://www.6vrelay.com/index.htm and I've no idea where to look. Took the seat off, thought it'd be one wire to all the turn signals or something, but if it is, I can't find it.

And now I realize that this thing is basically two wires; a red one and a black one. I'm going to take off the fuel tank and see if that doesn't help me to track some wires down.
