So i wanna hide my battery under my seat on 550. What are my options for a battery as i think the stock sized battery is a bit big to be hidden under a cowl seat. I was told to use a moped battery. IS that enough to power everything and crank the motor?
I would say, hotwire it with a smaller battery and see if she'll fire up. Trial & error i guess - It's vital to keep enough amp's though. I think the 550 has a 12amp one. that means any 12amp/12v battery will do the trick, but a smaller one will obviously die sooner.
So after using the search option it seems i need at least a 12v 7ah battery for the 550. So is this any battery with those stats or is there certain ones i should be looking for? Obviously want as small as possible.
You could probably use a 9~10 A/hr sealed battery if motor is in good condition.
The CCA is what you need to know
search around forum, there is a LOT of information
Definitely go with an AGM style battery vs. the conventional acid fill style. you can mount an AGM battery sideways without any problems. That would probably help in your case.
Agreed on the AGM. I kickstart my 76' CB550 and I have zero problems with this little guy (see attached pic) I'll figure out the numbers, but it runs all my lights and headlight is nice and bright. Haven't noticed any dimming either. Hopefully you can find one like this. I think I paid 38 bucks plus tax or so.
Id like to keep my e-start for now as i dont know how the bikes gonna run at first and it could need alot of cranking and id rather not kick it that many times. Any ideas on what the smalledt AGM battery is you can run with the e-start?
sorry to hijack. but can all battery be placed lying down ? the battery im using has water battery water inside(Only topup the water when i bought the battery) can my battery be placed lying down ?

I wouldn't go smaller than a 9A/hr on 550 with electric start.
You will probably 'flatten' it while your messing with starting so use stock battery if it's and good and/or jumper leads to car battery. (DON'T have car engine running, you could make battery explode)
