Bearings

Does anyone know if there's a better replacement for stock steering bearings? I dropped the front end out of one of my bikes and the grease was completely dry and me being a newb and not knowing they sat free in there, they pinballed all over the floor. Any tricks to putting them back in if there isn't a sealed type replacement? I'm sure I'll be cursing barefoot as I "find" them under my feet on the way to the laundry room....

You want tapered bearings up front. That's the typical upgrade path for steering bearings. Don't bother looking for your ball bearings.

What model bike is this?

Google CB400 hawk steering bearings and you'll find loads of suppliers. Looks like its a common bearing set for many Honda models. Looks like about $35-$45 range depending on where you buy from.

You'll need to remove the old bearing races from the frame and steering stem and press in the new tapered race into the bottom of the frame steering tube.

Thanks so much tim. All in all, this bike when done will have cost me less than a hundred bucks. Even with buying those bearings.
