Beat The Clock

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

If you're asking for opinions, I'd vote for drag bars or clips-ons. You might not want to listen to me though, as I've yet to see a set of ape hangers that I like. I wouldn't even have needed to look at the bike before answering. ;D

Sweet ride man, whatever you do with it. The new tank is cool. ;)

Troy,

You know I dig the FU bars, man.

I almost bought one of those whizzer tanks for my chop dude, I love that tank.

I'm confused... Is the hodaka tank on it or the little red tank with a "something" and a W on it?
oops sorry I thought you were talking about the Hodaka tank. The Whizzer tank has a swoop vinyl pinstripe and W on the side and some safety warning stickers on top.
That points cover is trick. Yeah I think I'll use that. Thanks

Awesome Troy. Rockin the little tank is bad ass and takes the bike wo another level. I looked long and hard at both bars and I am completely torn, meaning I can go either way. Depends on the mood, aggressive vs laid back.
thanks man. I appreciate ya looking at it. yeah I'm with ya. I'm really on the fence with the bars. I do think the tank is going to be a keeper though. Maybe some color or rider position pics would help decide

Yep I am asking. I value and appreciate everyone's opinion even if there are some prejudices involved haha. So thanks. This is going to be hard even though I can swap them out pretty easy.

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

You just need a cool vintage saddle bag thats big enough to store either one. Keep both with you at all times! ha ha

I tried my damndest to buy a Gemini mini bike tank but just couldn't afford one. The other thoughts were an axed alien but I was afraid it might be too long for what I was after. Ended up with the Whizzer and it kinda surprised me. I'm amazed at how long and low in makes the bike look from straight on the side. From an angle (picture with me in it) its kinda hard to see but man from direct on the side it looks way long

Thanks man. does give it an attitude. Its almost like Jeckyll/hyde, good vs bad.

hahaha, never thought of that. The Hodaka tank is pretty damn big though. Bag would always hae the aroma of gas too but thats nothing new for anything I own lol.
I'll grab some rider profile pics soon. that may help

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

So I got the announcement that there was an update on this thread and took a peek yesterday but wanted to let the pics percolate a little and let everyone pipe in because there are some really good thinkers here with great input.

My humble thoughts.....
with the Whizzer tank(!!!!!!!) it really does look long and low like a 20's board tracker. The drag bars come close to supporting this transition, especially with their original width but in truth I think it would need some pull back. Were it mine, and it's not so take this advice as worth every penny you didn't spend to get it.....
I'd find some flat pullback so that the grips are at the level they are now with the drags but out near the grips, angled back so they are at say....30* maybe even 45*. and back a few inches. That would really support the stripped down 100mph without brakes board tracker flavor. Part of that impression for me came from the red paint and gold details. With the brass accents from the petcocks (is that word as odd to say as it feels to me? Pet Cocks....petcocks, petCOCKS....) and the wingnut I think it'd just sing.

However.....hehehe
The FU's really call for that pudgy red marshmallow Hodaka tank. The two together really do make a set for me and speak of huge attitude. The lowered headlight is really subtle but serves to draw the eye up along the fork legs to the headlight and on up to the 'Bill the Cat' tweeked out grip combo.

I mean that in the best possible way too.....but I like BIll the Cat.

In the end, we can all crack on about what we think.......
What do YOU think?

I just know that I love the progression of this bike and I think the sheer post cound in this thread say similar for a lot of us!

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

This bike is looking really sick... I need to spend more time looking at the bobbers on this site, thats what your thread has taught me.

Also, I seem to remember a hydraulic bender in your garage......
you could always mock up a few of your own design.

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

I like the hodaka tank with drag bars but its not my bike, and I still dig it with the whizzer and FU's, just not as much!

Thanks for the Props Slice. Times have really changed around here. When I first started building this thing we didn't have a bobber forum. Now there are so many cool builds. Its amazing how many awesome bikes are here now.

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

I have a few points covers for a 360 if ya wanna try some different patterns. Or just to have one on hand that has no holes...?

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

appreciate your opinions Kev and Twisted. I really enjoy hearing from everyone. Sometimes it helps me see things from a different angle. Helps out a lot so thank you.

Louie: Think I may take you up on that. Appreciate the offer. Look for an inbound pm

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

man i am a huge fan if the FU bars... the tank is a bit small for my taste but does look good man... FU bars all the way!

Re: Beat The Clock...new tank 01-09-2011???

Hey Troy, My .02 would be to agree with Swagger and go with a bar in between the drags and the FU's, especially with the little wizzer tank. I really like the low slung look with that tank and some bars that are slightly curved and pulled bacl would suite it best. You can always keep the hodaka and FU's for the days your in the mood.

Cheers,
