Off topic with the best of them...

Lost my camera recently and now my phone is acting up... display's going in and out (3G Razr)

I don't know or care anything about phones, but now I want one that can carry the role of both a camera and phone. If I can skip the middleman and use the phone to update my website with pics and captions in a blog like format all the better. That portion of my site needs a change and I can change it to fit what the phone can do.

...do I want/need an i Phone?

A friend of mine recently picked up a Samsung Memoir it has a touch screen and an 8mp camera its really nice

FYI, the screen on my RAZR went out too. There is a wire "bundle" that runs through the hinge to the screen and it eventually breaks. Make sure you save any data (contacts, pics, etc.) off the phone now before you lose the screen alltogether. I had to find some bootleg software to access the data from my computer becuase I could see what I was doing on the phone.

If you are going to get an iphone, you'll have to get the 3Gs because the camera on the original 3g bites. There are several phones out there now with 3+ MP cameras some with autofocus and flash. Depends on your carrier.

Is that data bundle separate from the power connection? When I flipped mine open while it wasn't working it would brighten a tad as if it was getting power, but no data. Isn't all my important stuff on the sim card? The screen came back on today (while I was looking at iPhones) after being out since Sunday morning.

I just got off the phone with AT+T, I was trying to convince them that I should be eligible for an upgrade but they would have none of it. I thought they'd be happy to hear that I wanted to spend more money... but they wont let me, I don't get it. I'm not eligible until next year which would ad $200 to each iPhone. (that's a bike in itself)

It's all frustrating because I'm usually the type that holds on to a phone through several upgrades, until they're begging me to get a new phone, but now that mine want's to quit on me, I'm SOL.

No, it's all one bundle. It is a very thin flat ribbon. The data wires start to break first then it all goes.

I had all my contacts and pics stored in the phone memory. Since I had no screen, i didn't know what to push to transfer to the sim.

my wife just got a samsung flipshot, she loves it. Shes a hair stylist, so she uses her cameraphone to take pix of styles for her portfolio, and says its nice to not have to carry a camera around with her phone. I think its 5megapixel, and looks just like a small camera.

I think I've saved everything to the sim... I know my numbers go there, don't know about the pics.

The Flipshot looks potentially ideal, decent phone/great camera.

i have a sony ericsson k790.. i had one for a year.. then got thrown in a pool, and bought another one i liked the first so much... check out the sony line, they make great phones, and the better ones have CYBERSHOT built in.. i have steadycam, nightshot, multi filters, crazy zooms, photo editing, vid editing, software for computer, etc etc etc.. love it..

No flash card, I may be aced on the pics. But I didn't take pictures of anything important because it's so crappy anyway... so no big loss.

Sammo, what provider? I can't find the 790 through AT&T, they have the 760 which has a tiny crummy looking lens... Cybershot looks to be the primary difference between the 790 and the 760.

It appears that the winner may be the Sony Ericsson C905a... if I can afford one :(

btw: Cnet is awesome

i buy mine unlocked from a wholesaler.. providers don't always have the best selection. Go to the sony ericsson site and you will see many many great CYBERSHOT phones. The 790 is there.. but its a couple years old now.. the C905 has a 8.1 MP camera..

Best bet is to pick a phone you like.. and take that info to your provider.. i am in Canada.. so I use rogers.. When I lived in the USA, all I did was buy a SIM card from the provider and I was set.

cheersh

i got an HTC touch Pro and the pics it takes are amazing. plus its winmoble so ez programming your own applications.

Game, set, match.

Just ordered a C905a, thanks for the info on the Sony Cybershot stuff. Wish me luck.

I don't think I've ever paid for a phone before and this one was over $300 (I have paid for a camera though)

yay!

This is knocked back to %50 of the original size in photoshop after the fact, and taken in the 3mp setting out of 8mp, 5mp, 3mp, and VGA(640x480)
