bike gets rained on....won't idle now

left the cover off the bike one night and it rained pretty good. The bike (71 cb175) idled fine beforehand now will die almost instantly if i let off the throttle. I know it could be a million and one things, but just wondering if anyone has any input. Its been about a week now since the rain so i know everything has dried out.

Usually if rain causes a problem, it's with the ignition system - coil connections, spark plug boots/wires, etc. And the fact that it's only at idle makes me think it's a slightly poor connection that gets better with more revs (more electricity to overpower the connection).

not sure if it would be the left or right side cover of your bike but I had a similar(completely different)problem with my 750 it would not rev past 5k while in gear (previous owner left it outside under a deck for years)....Make sure you don't have one of these going on......
