Bike too big for DMV course? I don't suck, YOU suck

Washington has (or had) a three-tiered system, up to 250cc (or was it 350? this was 25 years ago...), up to 500cc, and over 500cc. I rode around with a permit for years before finally getting stopped (my tail light didn't have enough surface area...). Went and did my test on my CB550 and was done in one. 550s aren't the same as 1800s, but at least it's something. AZ was take the test on anything and you can ride whatever you want.

But regarding the article, if the guy was turned away, that sucks. But those courses aren't that tough if you're used to your bike, even on a big one.

Yeah, that's not how it is in Washington anymore.
When I did it, it was a three day program. Class sessions Friday, Saturday, Sunday, then riding on Saturday and Sunday. You took the written and riding tests on Sunday, if you passed both they gave you a certificate to take in to the DMV for your new license. They had bikes for you to ride there, not sure if there was an option to use your own. They had CB125s and Kawasaki Eliminator 125s.

Sounds like you took a course, CALf. If you're 18, you don't have to -- you can simply study the book for the written and if you pass take the riding. The course is a good option for folks who are just getting into riding and, as I understand it, will help with insurance rates. IT used to be that you'd just go get your permit and ride your bike until you got pulled over and got a ticket. Then you'd go take your test before you had to go to court, show up with your endorsement, and the judge would throw out your case. That's how I did it a few decades ago.

But it does look like Washington did away with the graduated endorsement based on displacement.

Yup, that's what I did. I was 17 at the time so I had to take that route, never looked in to the permit option.

In UK you have to go out on the road with an examiner following you telling you where to go on radio. One wrong move and you're toast. USA test is a joke. I did the skills test in Texas to get my USA license and I could have done it in a bus full of pigs.

Speaking of which...
