Hey,
You can do it in 2 ways depening on wether or not you want a solo seat or a 1.5 seating area like on a Giuliari.
First, you can just line up the cowl with the original lines of the bottom of the seat pan and weld/screw it into place.
I did that on my cb550f and it looks pretty good curved up.
Or you can cut the pan where it starts to curve upwards and use the bottom of the cowl to redefine the shape of the seat pan so that it doenst curve upwards. It jsut that you will loose seating area. It will end up being a solo seat since you are basically shortening the seat. (pic2)
you get the idea...
Here is how the seat looks in the first option, with it curved up a little following the original lines of the seat pan
Check out how Ryan did his:... He also followed the original lines of the seat pan & it looks great

Tank is roughly monted to seat int he position I like.
I will then dissasemble strip down the foamies off the seat and reprime everything. probably bondo a couple nicks out of the tank as well - AFTER it gets bolted back to the seat 8). There is some tension on that sheet metal! I'd do it a little different on my next one, but I think its kinda OK so far...
Lookin' pretty good thus far. I intend to really follow your project, as you seem to be headed in a direction I intend to follow: homemade seat on a primered up cafe 350 (though mine is a newly-acquired, rusted-out CL350).
The only thing I will say is the hump appears a little too tall.
Forgive the newb question, but what kind of tank did you use? I found an XS 360 tank on eBay for $5 that I think will work nicely.
I'll be checking in on your project frequently. I like where you're headed!
That looks AMAZING!!... ;D
For the leathering, I just took the original cover and the completed seat pan to a local leather guy and he did all the sewing for me on both seats.
Eek - it looks kinda ugly. But is nice n cushy - even too - when sat on...
I used Leon's plug idea for the cowl, then build a bed for the padding out of the EVO foam flooring to even everything out. Then added a 2" layer of heavy duty high density upholstery foam stuck on with 77 spray glue.
I think the underlying theme of my bike may be recycle-recycle-recycle as I am using all the original stuff I can. I am going to try and use the seat cover as well, testing my sewing, and morphing of material capabilities. I should try and clean up the vinyl a lil bit more before I do the work. But I should have plenty of material there to work with...
Looks great so far...
Just a suggestion, why not get rid of the EVO floor foam and just use the 2 incher directly on the pan.
I used the floor foam to flatten out the seating area cuz I was using a much thinner seating foam. Since you got the 2 inch foam, that should be more than enough.
