Black framed Ace 125

Hazza00

Been Around the Block
Finally got it today ! ... and the engine's black. I think she looks different, some might not prefer it this way, but to me, she looks absolutely gorgeous!

First mod - got rid of the kick starter, hehe!

More to come ...

Nice black frames are the best. Although I seem to have a hybrid as I don't have the black motor, which looks very nice by the way.

Enjoy.

Cheers Liam ... I'm hot on the trail of some of the same mods that you're doing to your beautiful ride - e.g. SS header and silencer, EGR removal, carb rejetting, etc. ... but won't be doing handlebars. Shocks, brakes and good tires later down the track.

Btw, I thought these bikes would not go over 85 kmh, but my first ride home from the shop (after a few short runs around the block) saw me riding along the motorway and I hit 85 easily, then as it loosened up, got up to 90, throttled down to 80, rode few more km's at 80, then opened up after a few more km's, got it to 95, 100, 105 ... I even eventually got it up to 110 on the flat sections with a slight down slope.

I was crouched down & tight by that time ... tank was filled with 98 RON fuel. It surprised me !

(speeds were as indicated on the speedometer) ... maybe there's an error on the Speedo?

Can't wait to see what it'll do with the planned mods !

Thanks Crazy ! - got a huge 'thumbs up' from another rider on the motorway, and even one from a car driver! <smiles>

btw, I will definitely be seeking lots of your very valuable advice.

Thanks mate, I wasn't planning on doing the bars either but the gorilla that put my bike together had other ideas. The back two bar bolts where tightened all the way down before the front two, destroyed the threads and snapped one of the bolts. And they are high tensile bolts!

Here is the one I managed to get out.

Don't know where yours was built but I would give it the once over and as crazy says get some grease on the bolts, everyone I have taken off so far has been dry.

... I'm 80kg +/- 1 kg (depending on which cafe or lunch bar or pub I stop over at !) ... hehe

Maybe the speedo's slightly off, wonder if other riders could comment on their speedo accuracy or if they've compared against a GPS?

Cheers,
Haz

ive gps tested it and the speedo is right. with the new exhaust on mine downhill ive hit 114kph on a gps reading.(results may differ)

I must have eaten to many pies! I struggled to get near 90!
I should probably wait until she loosens up a bit.

SS header pipe and performance silencer ordered from 00racing ... also EGR , carby re-jet and CDI kit. I can't wait ! And the peaked headlight and chrome tacho.

Until then, all I can do is cosmetic mods to it ... its so frustrating. I need more mid-range torque, arrghhhh !!

(But just loving the attention & thumbs ups the lil' ACE gets as I ride around the place. hehe ... never get that on my Ducati !).

Has anyone got any instructions or tips on how to re-jet the carby (using 00racing's kit)?

Presumably, you just dismantle it, remove the old, install the new jets ... but I've read there's "this many no. of turns" for lean mix, or opposite for rich mix, etc. etc. ... confuses me !

Read some posts, other riders have just "replaced and started OK, and runs OK" without any fluffing about with tuning ... ?

Just trying to get some instructions as the parts arrive next week.

Cheers for any help or advice.

Hi Hazza,

Might be able to shed some light, sorry if it has been a bit over simple. This is also from memory so if I've made any mistakes please correct me.

1st would thing would to be disconnect the throttle and choke cables. The cap for the throttle just screws off and the return spring and needle come with it, can be laid to one side. Easiest way to get the coke cable off is to unscrew the single screw holding in the clip (circled blue 1st pic), can then be unhooked from the lever and removed.

Next drain the bowl using the screw circled in red on the second pic, might be worth letting the hose run into a jerry can or something, I'd made the mistake of unscrewing it before I realised what it did. The carb can then be unbolted from the manifold, and turning upside down you'll see the 3 screws on the bottom (circled in blue, second pic). Take those out and the float bowl will come right off.

Finally you will be left with what is shown in the third picture. The two circled are the jets the kit replaces. The larger jet in the centre looks at if it could separate in two pieces, but it doesn't, just replace the entire thing. Perhaps someone could shed some light on what the third screw does? I didn't touch it (or I can't remember doing so) but could possibly affect the tune. Like I've said put the thing back together and ran fine without any fiddling. I'll also be keeping an eye on the responses. Might be that I've missed some easy horsepower. Hope this has been of some help, good luck when your kit arrives.

I didnt even worry about removing the throttle cable. Fuel off, unbolted carby from the airbox/manifold and then took off the bowl, took the old jets out, new jets in. bowl on, fuel on, and start her up.

Hi Chris ... I ended up having problems refitting the throttle cable after I removed it - just couldn't get it right, no spring return action, throttle was stuck in the wide-open position, etc. etc !! Yikes ... had to fluff around for longer than I wanted to in the end, but managed to get it working in the end. Rejetting was a simple exercise, but my god, the throttle spring and restoring proper response was a P.I.T.A !

Bike feels slightly more responsive now, EGR removed, re-jetted using 00racing's kit, but still on stock exhaust (incl. restrictive cat). I haven't fitted the new S/S header and performance silencer yet. (Like Liam's, I need to enlarge the holes in the flange piece, and get some parts to make up special brackets for the silencer) ... maybe sometime later next week, just had to go for a ride !

you will notice the difference with the new pipe.. second to 150 pot , this is the best change to make.
