Blade fuse vs tube fuse

Hello all,

I'm a newbie when it comes to electrics and I'm building a new loom for an SR 250 (for the masochistic fun of it ;D and to learn - it's the whole point of a project etc).

Part of the circuit has a fuse holder and tube fuse 12v 20A.

Could swap the setup for a blade fuse?

Are there any pros/cons?
Cheers

Hi!
I swapped to blade fuses on my Yam RD for a simple reason. If I get lost somewhere and all my spare fuses are gone I can still get some at the next gas station.
You cant get any tube fuses anywhere except special shops around austria.
Also i made the experience that the brass holders of the tube fuses tend to crack after 30plus years of use and this be quite shitty if youre out on the read changing a fuse...
And the blade fuses are cheaper.
Just buy a 3 fuse automotive holder and use the same amps as the stock ones and you are golden.

If you are building your own loom, set each individual system up with a fuse. That way if you pop one, it doesn't shut the whole bike down.

Definitely swap the old tube out for blade style. They're way more durable and hold up to vibration 100x better. If you go to your local authorities parts store (or for a little less money online if you're not in a hurry) they sell in-line blade fuse holders that are waterproof for around $5. I use them on everything.

The biggest problem with the XJ Yamaha's was the unreliability of the original fuse boxes. The first thing you do to them is change the fuse box to a blade style unit.

All great replies folks, much appreciated! Looking at the tube fuse I was scratching my head as to why I should keep it. One more step in the right direction!
