Ok, so i sold the bike i just finished, see here http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=44598.msg504040#msg504040
And i'm going to look at this tommorow but i know nothing 'bout BMW bikes (have owned many BMW cars tho) and would like some input from y'all.
This is as it sits and does come with its fairings, the guy wanted $1500 but i offered him $1100 (NZ $) and he said yep. I'm kinda willing to take a punt on it UNLESS there are any big red flags. TIA
Early ones had a problem with fuel pump regulators but they were changed under waranty.
Friend had one with 170,000 miles on it (still has it but it's now 'display only')
as far as i know, the biggest problem with K series BMWs is explaining to your mates why you bought one heeheeheeheeheeheeheeheeheeheehee (no offence to those out there blessed with ownership of one)
Lol, yeah, I was talking to a friend of a friend and he said, "Hey, a buddy of mine has an older BMW in my garage- he wants to sell it." I couldn't get over there fast enough. He opens the garage and it is a K bike. I pretended like it was a cool bike. . . . I left bummed and empty handed.
K bikes aren't for everybody... tell you what: go ahead and get it and I'll do you a big favor and give you my CL 360 for for it. Just to show you what a fine guy I am I'll even throw in my '59 three-wheeler. Seriously, they are a great bike.
That's a K1100 - bigger forks, 4 pot Brembos and the Paralever rear end. Later FI system. Wheels are slightly larger, but with those forks a K1200S 5 spoke wheel swap is straightforward.
They are really bulletproof and respond to mild tuning - one of my RAM shock customers has been winning races in the BEARS series with a k100 [ stock engine apart from porting / blueprinting ].
No much you need to do - decent shocker and front springs makes all the difference.
Here's one of my Kay projects in mock up form at the end of last year. Now getting the K1100 fork swap with 5 spoke wheels.
Here's Ben Kingham on his way to the top step of the podium in the BEARS series
Not sure what happened to the pic .. I'll try again.
In the meantime, here's another variation - Race Rep.
I used an '09 R6 fairing for this one, which incidentally is EXACTLY what BMW did when they were developing the R1000S ! Trouble was when the mock up was finished - it looked like every other race rep out there.
