Your dog wants a ride. He knows you're never, ever coming back and his life will not be the same and he misses you and ..Squirrel!

hey up again gary...

yeah harley sportster pipes certainly get people staring at the bike as i ride past around town...makes me laugh

and out on the open road im getting continual nods waves and flashes from other bikers irrespective of what machine they are ridin'...which doesnt happen anywhere near as much on my modern steed...

so im happy..which of course is what it's all about.. :)

Those are really good pipes I put a set on my Dad's CX500 and they sounded so good I bought a bunch of them and sold about 10 sets to Honda owners. Great quality and with a 1.75" inlet they fit a bunch of bikes. Love your BM. I have an old R50/2 1967 Earles forks old school.
Cheers, 50gary

yes im lookin to do the same and purchase some more sets especially as they're in abundance with Harley owners ditchin their originals for screamin; eagles etc

can you post a pic or link to your bmw please...and cx as well
i have fond memories of my cx and missed out on a free one a while back

Needs a paint job that's for sure. Lot's of mods, rear disc brake re-valved/sprung ZRX shocks, GSXR front end 18" x 2.15" Comstar that I made from parts, Conti Go tires, flat slides, etc. Fun bike that eliminates the weak points of the CX500 mainly rubber forks and no brakes. English tax disc that needs a picture of young Elvis.

Yeah, I like the Comstars, the original steel spokes are the ones. The reverse are aluminum and fugly. I wanted slightly wider and 18" The comstars are an integral part of the CX look IMO. You can see the gold rotor adapter which I designed and a friend CNC milled (not cheap) We also CNC the rear set plates and made the pegs. I also "leveled" the gas tank, I've always thought the tank was too much uphill. So I raised the rear one inch and moved it rearward about one inch. It was a lot of work but necessary as the big forks took up a bunch of room so much so that even with the tank moved to the rear I had to dimple the tank where the forks go.

i dunno why the big4 dont commit to reproduce and sell some of their past bikes in a retro vintage lineup alongside the new stuff.

all the usual suspects like cx's with modern running gear would sell like hotcakes....and maybe even outsell the new stuff.

the new yam xv looks nice but its always been around so im thinking bikes built exactlly as they were with modern running gear and probably small concessions to updating motors and things like seats but keep paint original.

cx500,cb200,gs850,xs1100,gpz750,gsx1100,superdream,cbx1000,z1300....mmmmmmm

i love the tank on a cx and the original colours but on yours i would repaint the tank in the same style but the black replaced by the comstars colour and the stripe to match the fork gold..... ;D

here is a gsx1100 tank ive done with Holts rattle cans on another project.....as you can tell im a fan of metallic brown and this has gold specks in it when the sun shines....

and i agree about the uphill tank..good job levelling it out...

cxman showed me a pic of his cx with the busa forks up front....you two are going to be spending my cash for me without knowing it seeing all this loveliness...lol

It's funny that you mention the redux of certain older bikes by the Japanese companies. When building the CX I had the goal of making the bike like a factory upgrade rather than a wild custom. That's why I kept the keynote items like the Comstars, side covers, and tank. Can you imagine how nice an already bomb proof CX motor would be with fuel injection and a sixth gear? I chose the 500 over the 650 because it's a classic engine size that has a certain sweetness to it. Bracing helped tighten the frame cope with the additional traction. My rear sets are only about 3" back and 1.25" upward and I didn't use clip-ons (M-bars ala Triumph Thruxton) for this bike as it was meant for every day & easy to ride. Your tank looks good, the GS 1000 and 1100 are my favorite big fours. A Wes Cooley rep would be fun. Sorry for yammering on. Spring is coming.
Cheers, 50gary

improved starting issues, runs sweeter and has quietened the exhaust down

the old coil was cracked big time

and to replace that it's best to replace the ig control unit too...
