thanks

That picture's been around for a few years now - it's a Bonnie, not a Thruxton.

But the thing that really annoys me is the half-assed hardtail

Absolutely. Maybe on a shafty bike but a chain drive?

Yort, I don't think anybody knows the answer. But if you like it, build one yourself! Post the progress on here and you'll get plenty of help.

+1 the fun is in the doing, almost more than the riding.

oh im very well aware that building is %50 of the fun, and then enjoying the finished product and saying you did it is the other %50.

you guys also think that the hardtail conversion on it is half-assed? personally, i like the look of, because it keeps below the swing arm area clean and clear. if i were to do a hardtail, i would do it very similarily but maybe an inch or two stretch.

No not half arsed in the looks. I think what hillsy may be saying, and i am saying is why not get rid of the swing arm, cut off the back end and hard tail it properly?

Form AND function for me, but yes - I think it is a cheap-assed version of a hardtail. There's a few issues around doing it this way that is not the best (swingarm should be welded at the pivot or else resonant frequency vibration can wear the bearings and the rear end can fatigue / fail). Also, a properly triangulated hardtail has an amount of built in flex that acts as a form of suspension. A welded / strutted swingarm will not have any suspension effect whatsoever.

Can't resist this one ;D I owned and rattled over asphalt with a truimph trw 500(surplus CD military)I'm not sure what hurts more, my back from riding this thing,(yes a hard tail with springs attached to the seat) or the stripped kick start pawl,,and over extending my knee joint,,I think more form,,,,,,,cause these things don't function unless it's parked at the donut shop ;D ;D
