Bobbing Stock Chrome Fenders

Hi All, I'm a newbie here and I am looking to start working on modifying my recent Craigslist find, a 1978 Honda CB550. Does anyone have experience or tips about how to bob chrome fenders, i.e. if you are wanting to keep them chrome? Any and all advice is much appreciated. Cheers, Matt

Keeping it chrome without re-chroming or painting is a little tougher. The edge wherever you cut it is going to expose bare metal that will eventually rust. The cleaner the cut the better. If you file, sand and polish the edge, it will slow down the rusting. I haven't tried, but I would imagine a clear coat or chassis/frame paint on the underside that catches the edge would help prevent rust. But, I have no idea how strong that will be. Rolling the edges of the rim is best for strength, but that usually causes the chrome to split.

Matt - I've been curious about this also. I'm going to be working on this late next week so I'll update you with progress!

Memnauk~
