Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Pheonix Rising]

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Looking good Boingk, can't wait to see it finished.

Just looking at the Bucket Racing page,,,, hmmm, I have a Yamaha 1.. ;D something sitting in the shed that would do the job.

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Dunno how I missed this one, very cool mate!
Looks like fun.

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Maybe one day I can ship my G4TR back to Australia and we can both race in the same class. Then there will be a couple of 2 stroke Kawasakis!

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Thanks guys, always good to have some encouragement! Meanwhile, its down to the local hardware store for another hose clamp and some hoop iron to secure that long stinger/muffler setup. I'll be sure to post a photo of it once its ready to roll.

By chance, did you see the plastic tank that Curbcast got for his moped?

Yeah, very nice indeed. There are a few options around my way, I may end up wih something off an earlier Suzuki or Yamaha as they fit what I'm after. The real pain in the rear is getting anything to fit this frame, so I might end up welding my own tank around the stock base tube part.

Through the haze, the machine stood ready. No mention was made of its crudeness, for it would surely be effective. Designed by a lunatic and ridden by a madman, this diminutive machine was the last bastion of days gone by; of the shrill wail and pungent haze that used to be synonomous with motorcycle racing. This was...

...the last Two Stroke.

Beautiful!

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Here are some photos of the bike in ready-to-race condition, complete with numbers. I did a big 'night before' stint with the help of a few mates to get it ready, couldn't have done it witout them. Nothing like having three pairs of hands and eyes to work with!

I attached the rear cowl with a clamp around a horizontal frame brace and some pop rivets, and the silencer system is held in place with some artfully crafted hoop iron...and pop rivets. The carby is mounted with hose clamps and radiator hosing, and the fuel line is held out of the way via another bit of hoop iron thats held in place with a bolt connected to a fitting on the exhaust. The rims were sprayed silver while still on the bike after a quick cleanup with a brass brush, hahaha. Oh yeah, and that strap on the tank is a belt covered with cloth tape. Very la-dee-da.

Only thing that went wrong was my transmission refusing to change properly while I was halfway through my practise lap. Damn...

Stay tuned for more mishaps and mayhem!

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Is that the old fairing from the GS? I like it!

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

No air filter? and your original carb was behind the case right? Haha I see that monster you have on there now can't fit behind the case so your leaving it open like that?

Looks tough as balls man.

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Completely bonkers man...so cool!

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

hey man, nothing wrong with using radiator hose to mount a carb ::)

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

hoooah!

here's an old race moped trick. get some old pantyhose and double layer it over the carb opening and hose clamp it on.

just don't use fishnet! lol

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Caught the race bug...]

Whoa, didn't expect this to get as much attention as it has at all! And yeah, its a hoot to ride.

I did swap the fairing over from the GS, but it'll probably go back there once I register it (the GS). Either that, or I'll pick up an 8" lamp for the GS when I head to the big smoke and leave this fairing on. Running the carb open sounds great, but hoseclamping some pantyhose over it would probably be the smart thing to do. Its actually deliberately mounted drooping down a bit so it doesn't contact the expansion pipe haha.

I'll see if I can scrounge the pic of me with it in my race gear from a mate, post it up for a laugh. Seriously, best bang-for-your buck bikes out there are these little strokers...easy to increase the power output and they are a hoot to chuck around town - or the track, in my case. Meanwhile...gotta try and resolve the transmission problem.

Re: Boingk's Kawasaki KV100 [Selling up]

Righteo, I'm selling this thing. I don't have the time to mess with the transmission, even if it is something 'easy' to fic like a selector fork or whathaveyou. Watch this space.

Many months passed, and Jiminy Cricket grew lonely. Weary of its unloved existence, it pined away on the green stand it called home. Just another forgotten garage ornament, used only to hold tools and gather dust. The sun rose and fell in an endlessly repeating sequence as it waited for its Creator to return.

Now, the air is warming. Not much at first, but soon a new season will dawn. A new season beckoning forth new life; a season of birth and growth. No longer is the Cricket unloved, alone, for it is no longer a Cricket...

...it is a Pheonix Rising.

Ever figure out what was wrong with the tranny?

Glad to hear you're back at it.

Hey Big Rich, haven't even split the cases yet! Have been working on the GSX-1100 and XR600... the tiddler has taken a backseat for the moment but I'm thinking about swapping the engine into the '72 frame so I can get it road legal with simplified lighting (headlamp & tail/brake light). Also found some awesome inspiration:

Might have to look into getting mine running like that...

YOINK!
Insperation stolen!

Glad to hear your back at it mate.

Where did you source your expansion pipe/exhaust from any how? I am almost at that stage.

I scrounged wreckers in the area. Ended up with a few stock KE100 pipes, one from a modern Honda CR80 & another from an early Suzuki RM80. The CR80 one took little modification to fit and should work alright once I port the barrel a bit. 3mm wider on the exhaust port and about 1mm off the top should do it to start with, don't wanna go too overboard with it.

While the cases are apart for the transmission I may as well have a look at the disc valve, too...
