Brake lights issue

My gs550 has recently been blowing the fuse for the brake lights. I ran all new wiring to the front and rear switches trying to solve it. Now only the rear switch works. I assume if I touch the two wires for the front together it'll light up? If so they do not work somehow. am I missing something stupid?

Possibly?

Brake wire is usually a single wire that runs directly from the front brake switch to the brake light in the rear. The rear brake switch has a wire that runs from it to the wire for the front brake switch. Both front and rear brake switches will also have a power wire.

Figured I'd follow up on this. I reused the original spade connectors because I couldn't find any miniature ones at the local parts store. As it turned out underneath it's cover was so much corrosion where the wire meets the connector it must not have been making a connection which explains why when I touched them together the light never came on. Cut them off, got some regular size connectors and pinched them down a bit to make them fit and works perfectly.
