well i finally got around to taking them apart only to find that the only part in the mc is the piston. big deal. figured i was gonna rebuild it anyway. then i blew out the caliper piston and found that it is kinda pitted. can you use a slightly pitted caliper piston? i have pics for you to judge. as for replacement parts, i was gonna use mrcycles.com unless you guys know of a better place.
The pitting isn't a problem is the o-ring seal isn't seated in that area. A replacement isn't cheap, about $50. When you install the fresh pads the pittiing will probably be outside the o-ring. OEM Honda parts are always best as long as they are available. Lots of that stuff can still be ordered at a Honda dealer.
I was working on the same thing and I was wondering where I could get some shorter brake lines? For that matter where do you guys get the other shorter cables (clutch, throttle)?
If you rebuild the master cylinder here is my secret tip. Trying to remove the piston retaining circlip requires one hand on the circlip pliers, one hand on screwdriver pushing down the piston and a third hand to hold MC while you do this. So get a piece of plywood (maybe a foot square - not critical) then drill a hole in the center big enough for the bolt that goes through the banjo fitting ends.
Then simply bolt the MC upright to the plywood "stand". Now both hands are free to work out that pesky circlip.
FYI I have used pitted pistons - DrJ speaks the truth.
