Brake Rotor Coating?

Ha!

Seriously though you just need to use them to stop something. There isn't any coating on brake rotors - the putz at the mcMechanic who turns rotors on a lathe doesn't put anything on them afterward...
There is more to the rotor than just the contact patch. Most rotors have some sort of corrosion resistance on the exposed areas of it to prevent corrosion. Mine had a zinc chromate coating originally but I had it blasted off when cleaning them off. Zinc is the way to go,first few times you hit them it will remove the zinc from the contact patch and and not embed itself in the pad.

Why not PC the portion that won't have pad contact?
Probably what I will do temporarily, powder may fail and burn in this application because they are thin and can heat up under race conditions. I never had any problem with the rotors when I ran single piston calipers on them. But they weren't powder coated so I don't know what temps they will get with the 4 piston calipers.

You remind me of that little Chihuahua that barks and nips at your heals when your back is turned. Are you brads puppy, I see you follow him around like one.

You're adoadorable

There are other coatings available:

I guy at work just got a new rim and rotors for his harley, and he got this "Dry coating" which protects the rotors, and looks like powdercoating...I'll get some more details from him

I've used High temp paints on Rotors, driving will clean any surface overspray (you can clean the pads afterwards), did this on my car... Lasted 2 years in harsh Canadian Winters. ;D ;D Its cheap and it works!

Ferritic Nitro-Carburizing is apparently a newer thing coming out for rotors.... ??? ??? Basically same thing they have been doing to piston aircraft engine crankshafts...
