Actually, you can turn the came manually and watch for it. Obviously it can bolt down if you want it to but after looking at it closely you can see that it fits correctly. Sure there could be a 1/1000 of a difference that will be worn down but it seems to be a perfect match. Guys on other forums said they have done the same thing. I definitely got lucky but it's seems like most dudes on here want to discourage any hope. Lame!

It's not about discouraging hope, its about doing it right. Sure it may work just fine, or in 200 miles it may cause the cam to wear out sending a valve into a piston locking your motor and killing you on the freeway. Much more likely is that it will work fine for a few thousand miles until you start having issues and have to replace the head or the cam.
But since you're now the expert. Have fun.

Why even ask if you're just going to disregard the information given to you with DECADES of experience?
I tried to do the same on my 400, and replace only the bottom case because I, like you, didn't know any better. But when i was told they are line bored at the factory, I bought a matched set.

Sorry if thats harsh.

I didn't say I was the expert my mechanic is though. I bought a new head to put on it and he said that it wasn't needed. Hey only time will really tell. Don't get to worked up man haha. Ride safe. :)

actually I think you'll be ok, but use the strip and torque it down and see what difference there is, you might be surprised!
