Brrrrr it's freaking cold in Maine!

Hello from Maine.

Some of you may know me from the SOHC4 forums. As my spring riding plans include modifying my 78 CB750F into a cafe I thought I would register and post here as well. Currtently I have 3 CB750's in my frigid garage. I got back into riding last season after a 10 year hiatus from my old Yamaha 650 Special. I spotted a 78 CB750F in Craigslist and bought it from a snowy backyard last January for $400 without even hearing it run. After I got her home and sorted out I rode the hell out of the new tires on her and rode the 10 mile round trip to work every day it wasn't raining, along with an hour long ride at lunch, managing to put on 2,500 miles before putting her up for the winter.

Here's a pic, yes it's ugly but true:

More recently I picked up a sturdy 76 CB750K for $200 from a co-worker which came with a spare motor and lots of extra parts (how could I say no???):

Lastly I picked up a freebie 74 CB750 that was once a cafe, but had a siezed motor. It has no tank, exhaust, or seat but did come with a Dyna, Accel coils, Oil pressure gauge, clubmans, and finned covers... I'm stripping the parts off in preparation of putting them on the 750F.

I've been on the hunt for a pretty cheap vintage cafe fairing for the cafe build, but I can't really put in the $300 for a decent one, and those lockharts you see on ebay don't do it for me. I have enough parts to put a headlamp and signals on so I'll probably settle with that for now.

This 750F really surprised me when I began riding it, as it has plenty of power to see the ton. That fairing sure makes cruising at speed easy! Too bad it is 70's ugly // as ugly as a white guy with a fake fro, mustache and chest hair hanging out.

As I dig into my project I'll share some build posts as well.

Cheers,

Ben

Maine seems to be full of cheap bikes and cheap cars. I'm not sure why. Every once and a while if you pay attention you can get good old stuff on the cheap.

In fact, I'm picking up a 76 with good engine but missing exhaust and a gas tank for free on Sunday. It's going to my brother in law's where he'll build an old school bobber with it.

I may sell some parts when I'm done with my build. I'm using the cafe parts on my F bike. The only thing I'm unsure about is the Accel Coils and Dyna S, as Hondaman on the SOHC4 forums sells an electronic ignition which he makes specifically for the SOHC. I believe it also works on Kawa's but it (from what I understand) handles the spark at high RPM better than the Dyna.

You interested in anything in particular?

Hey,

Well if you are not gonna use the Accel Coils and Dyna S, let me know!! ;D

Connecticut went from 19 degrees last week to high 50s and even 60 on Tuesday (I had a mysterious illness that day and couldn't make it to work) I rode my bike that day like I was never going to be able to ride again.....
