Build your own Blast Cabinet on the cheap!

Life 1/4 mile at at time!
Ok fellow Cafe Racers! I finished my home built blast cabinet and thought I'd give you all a brief tutorial and see what you think. I made it mostly from scraps I had laying around but I did purchase the following:

1. Used oil drum - $10.00, make sure you get one with a removeable top!
2. Blast gun - I bought mine at Tractor Supply for $20.00
3. Air hose fittings - <$10.00
4. Under cabinet light - from Wal-Marx $9.00

Things you can scrounge:

1. Heavy rubber gloves - freebie from my neighbor
2. Old pair of blue jeans - you'll see why soon!
3. Paint - Grey primer here
4. 6" length of steel tube for arm holes, a piece of Lexan and steel sheet for window frame

Here it is ready to blast! The siphon is in a bucket of glass beads, and the cabinet is hooked up to the shop vacuum.

Cheapo gloves. Just sleeves made from old blue jeans sewed to the rubber gloves.

Wheelz,

Yep, I just sweep the media out of the cabinet and sift it through a screen then re-use it. Simple and really not that messy.

Man, how many pieces do I have to cut my frame into to fit into that barrel? Kidding - this is good stuff

Useful,

The arm holes are just some 6.5" thin wall tube I had lying around, I cut them to 8" long and MIG welded them in place so they stick into the cabinet about 2" to attach the gloves. The biggest PITA in the whole process is cutting the holes in the drum for the window and arm holes.....you can always cut a hole bigger but you can't cut a hole smaller!
