Building a "start stand" for my CB360

thanks :)

Still gotta mount the solenoid for the starter and the coils. I think I am going to add a couple more die springs under the frame, and stiffen things up a bit. The lawnmower gas tank mount needs a gusset, and I need to line the area where the tank sits with something to protect from the vibrations. Couple other minor details to do that I'm forgetting for sure...

But it should be ready to run in the next day or two.

sorted out the wiring diagram for my application (I hope).

Coil and solenoid mounted. Should do a test fire before the day's out Friday.

made a big list yesterday of everything I needed to bring to work today to make this thing run. Went and bought all the bits and pieces I didn't have. Got everything together from my garage and set it so all I had to do was grab it and go. Then this morning, I went... but forgot to grab the pile. Sigh.

Well, everything is done except mounting the tank, installing the little bit of wiring it needs, and the throttle. Found an old two cable throttle at home and a chunk of handlebar. I'm going to weld it right to this thing :D

Today I gusseted the tank mount, added some cross bracing under the main carriage, cut out an access window in the front mount, installed another pair of die springs, and made a self-storing handle. I am picking up my son from college after work today. I think I am going to bring him down here tomorrow to see if we can't fire it up together 8)

Harbor Freight just called, they would like to order a thousand please....

heh, tell 'em to send the PO number ;)

Monday I'll mount the throttle. Once I'm sure everything is solid and working I'll tear it back down and get the thing powdercoated.

ready to clean up, paint and straighten up the wiring. It runs!

Quick video:

Seems to run ok, but I'm not getting fuel. It's only running on starting fluid. I thought maybe the tank wasn't high enough, but the fuel level is about even with the top of the diaphragm covers, so...?

As long as your fuel outlet is above the top of the float bowl you should be getting fuel.
Check for stuck floats?
Is your tank vented?

CrazyPJ rebuilt and balanced the carbs for me. They haven't been installed since (just stored in the box they shipped in). I guess anything is possible, but I kinda doubt it. One dripped from the float bowl for a few minutes, but then stopped. The tank is ancient... came off a 1960s Bolens tractor. I'll pop the cap and give it another shot to make sure I'm not getting a vacuum lock.

If it's dripping from the float bowl it's getting fuel ;D
Perhaps the floats are set too low and you're flooding?
Just crack open a drain screw and see if there's fuel in the bowls.

popped the fuel cap (tank leaks like crazy too I found out). ran like a champ. Other than the steady stream of oil out of the front of the head...

Seems like an odd spot for a leak ???

http://youtu.be/Z_QsGOlVnDE (sorry about the sideways video... I didnt shoot it that way, so idk?)

Glad it was an easy fix, other than the leaks.
I'd go in and retorque the head bolts and try again

I have a new gasket set on the way, a cylinder being bored for the GS850 pistons and copper head and base gaskets coming too. I think I'll tear it down now that I know it runs and see if I can get the head checked and rebuilt as necessary.

It looks like the oil is coming right through the cylinder. Maybe it's just the lighting. Could the cam chain have worn right through the guide and into the cylinder in that area?

0 doubt about it, your jugs cracked around the chain tunnel.

Same thing happened to another CL360 I've seen with a disintegrated tensioner.

Luckily I have a couple more. In fact one of the jugs is at the machinist being bored this week. What causes the crack?

Interesting, as this motor and my other complete one both are marked as having the recall work done.

Re: Building a "start stand" for my CB360

It's leaking from between the CYLINDERS.

I noticed the same on a bike I was flushing shrapnel out of. Somebody had replaced the tensioner and left the pieces in the bottom. Once it was running you'd see a slight heaving of oil from that chain passage.

To confirm, just rinse the front with carbie cleaner and then powder it with talc. Watch for the oil to appear and follow it to the source.

yeah, I edited my post after reading the response again. I didn't see the word jug the first time. No worries though (I hope) as it ran good and didn't smoke.

The big bore kit will be going on before long. Now to find someone who'd like to recondition a head for me...
