Bung repair

Any ideas what my options are for fixing a stripped petcock bung? Helicoil my only option?

You can build it up with weld and recut the threads.

Might be able to do something with JB Weld or the like. Seems to me there are a few epoxy based 'build it up, tap it out' solutions to this.

DrJ is correct for the absolute right way to fix it, but the heat from welding will very likely destroy whatever nice paint you might have on your tank.

Nothing wrong with Helicoil here either. Shit, people use in on engine blocks. The petcock isn't exactly a highly stressed member (insert joke here).

Bung??????what type external 14mm honda,internal???????? I am im the process of converting cb 350 tanks to dual 1/4 npt female fittings and chucking the cross over!which means modiflying the existing bung(cut off flush) and drilling the other side,welding etc,the waldridge baggy came in the mail the other day .............$120.00for 2 non reserve petcocks,90 elbows and crush gaskets.........that takes care of one tank!!!!!!!!!!!another alternative is what I did on my race heap, plugged off the bung and used the crossover spigots as main fuel supplies and install in line fuel valves......but it's still a kunt to remove the tank......good ruck
