Hello all. Just started a build thread not too long ago. I'm pretty green when it comes to working on bikes. I got a cheap battery to check the overall state of the electrical bits in my 81 kz305 while I wait on carbs to arrive. I have a wiring diagram but I can't make anything of it. Someone scanned the manual and the quality isn't the best. Still very appreciative of it though. Which wire(s) are the ignition and how would i go about bypassing it? Doesn't have an ignition, just a wad of wires where everything use to be...
The 4 pin square connector block (2nd from the right in the pic) is the ignition switch block. In short, you just need to connect them all together to turn the ignition on.
Thanks a ton guys. It looks like someone has already attempted it. They left a small loop of wire in there. Also I can't find the original ground point on the frame. Will any bare spot on the frame work?
SHE LIVES! Sort of... Hooked everything up, Connected the wires within the plug but the starter button didn't work. Put an old screwdriver across the solenoid and the starter turned over! Small victory! Thanks again guys
Starter could be grounded through the switch housing into the handlebar. Check that, then chase back through headlight bucket and you'll find the issue. Its also possible you have a clutch or neutral interlock. I'll study your diagram and see.
