The guy I bought my GS650 from put clip on handle bars and the brake line, the throttle cable and the choke cable are all too long. Does anyone know of good replacements, modifications or fixes for this? It is causing a high idle when it will actually run and also for the bike not to start unless you mess with the cable. Thanks In advance!

The easiest route would be to unhook the ends of the cable and housings, route them the best way possible(so that they wont pull or pinch anywhere from lock to lock), measure them out and bring the measurements to a local dealer. Find out what model bike has the closest match to the lengths you need and write it down, that way you have a reliable source and easy way to explain what you need to a dealer or to track it down online. Then decide to buy them at dealer or on-line, up to you.

Thanks Edge, I ended up getting some cables online off of a GS model that came with lower handle bars, they are still causing my problems though. I will have to mess with them a little more. Thanks for your suggestion.

not a problem, i am going to be tearing my GS down to the frame and building it back up. So i am going to have the same issue.

By the way, how do you like the clip ons? I know the tank on that bike sits rather high, so i just wanted to know how they feel. Your pic looks like you mounted under the top triple, had to ask.

Call MotionPro. Explain what you need. Spend a few bucks. Have custom cables made to your specs. As far as the brake hose, now would be a good time to upgrade to the far superior braided stainless. Figure out the length you need and buy one from any number of online speed shops (i.e. Summit Racing) with the required ends. Done.

The clip ons were ok, although they did hit the tank. I have heard that you can reposition them so the bolts won't hit. I pulls them off in favor of some clubmans. I actually picked up another GS650 that has some different bars on it with all new cables and a master cylinder. I will be concentrating on that one so I can ride it this summer and once I have it up and running I will go back to my original project and really go all out. Hopefully I can sort out the cable issues without having to keep ordering the wrong ones. I ordered motion pro cables, but I will have to call them to make sure I get the correct ones next time.

If I were to go back to the clip ons I would get some rear sets for sure. If you didn't have rear sets you would be riding with your body folded at a 45 degree angle. I don't think that would look too cool or be even remotely comfortable.

Well Godsilla, would you be interested in off loading the clip ons? I wouldn't mind taking them off your hands if they fit my bike.

If you interested in selling them, let me know and tell me what size the bar is and what size forks they can clip too.

I am not sure if i want to use clip-ons or not, so finding a cheap set of used ones would be helpful in determining once and for all if they will fit me and my riding style on this bike.

Edge, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the clip ons yet. My buddy wants them for his bike and I kind of want to save them for a project down the road. I will let you know the specs once I get out there and spend some time working on it. I know the guy got them off of DCC for $80 something
