been lurking here awhile. before i start choping up my vintage suzuki i thought i'd try my hand at a smaller project, heres my first cafe, it's a motorized bicycle with one of those 50cc china kit motors. turned out as a really fun project. run great and is a ton of fun.

Haha that looks great, is it a custom frame, how fast does it go?
Give us some more details about it! :p

i made the frame with componets from nova cycles. it has drum brakes and a 3 speed rear hub. it will do about 40 mph. the seats not to bad, wouldn't want to ride it cross country though. 50cc 2 stroke. the fron hub has a dyno for powering the head light.

That thing is pretty slick! And since it's a moped really you don't need plates or a license to ride it. Guys around here have been modding beach cruisers into sorta bobber/chopper styles. Pretty freaking cool really.

here it's considered a motorized bicycle and no registration is required. i was a little leery of converting my suzuki R-E5 to a cafe but since this turned out good it's given me the confidence to jump into it. heres a pic of the front end.

I'd love to hear more details: where you got the parts, what was involved in building/assembling, etc. Looks like a fun project.

the basic bike is prety simple, i laced strummy/archer drum brake hubs into 24" rims and added 3" wide tires. built a wooden frame jig and made the fram from mild steel tubing, tig welded. the basic design of the fram is i copied a 1975 yamah bmx bike, just up scaled it a little. the forks are nos for a 1965 suzuki K10, lot of people selling them on the web for $35. the pipe is from a moped, had to cut it andturn some joints, then reweld it and have it chromed. the body is fiberglass, i made a foam blank and layed it up. the rear shocks are for an old mini bike. i have about a 1000 bucks in parts and around 80 hours into it. the engine kits can be found just about anywhere, like ebay, they come with all the parts needed to motorize a bike, engine, throttle, chain & sprockets. there about $150. prety ez to put one together.

Thats cool!! I've been thinking about doing this to my Schwinn. Its got a front free wheel, so I just need to make some mounts for a motor and gas tank and I'd be good to go. (for the most part)

Here's a vid of how it works, if your unsure of what a front free wheel is.
