Cafe racers at the "Ace" and thoughts on hipsters

I think the blogger was try to say is that hes glad that a younger generation are getting into bikes and it doesn't matter how they are doing it as the interest needs new blood to continue to survive.

I believe that was the point all along.

Sure, you wanna call shellac records "shellacs" or polysterene records "polysterenes"? Or do you want to call them records? If you have records that go back to 1928, you'd better not call them vinyls, since they certainly weren't made from vinyl. I know some younger folks (it's a very new thing, by the way, last ten years or so) call records "vinyls" and you are apparently one of them. I guess I don't give a shit, you can lead a horse to water, and all that, but people who know better will laugh when you call records "vinyls."

Shit, Velvet Underground was a band of druggie hippies, not punk. Don't get me wrong, I actually like their first two LPs (and not much else), despite the fact that Lou Reed is an insufferable asshole.

Thread hijacked, I guess, but I'm still waiting for VZ's reply. Surprised nobody's called me out for pontificating, too. I guess I'll just say I should know what I'm talking about.

Duly noted ;). I own no originals that go back to 1928, unfortunately, but your point is made. Although, the phrase "I have a sweet collection of polysterenes" has an awfully nice ring to it. I bet it would really take off with my hipster friends ::).

As far as your Punk dogma, I figured you knew a lil' something...just testing the water and having a little fun on a slow work day. Perhaps taking heed of such wisdom would do me some good ;). /of asshatery and hijack

That's kinda what I took from it.

Was waiting for that!

I'm with you on the vinyls.

Didn't I just say that.

Musically influencing yes, as for the punk movement then only the mid 70s industrial Britain could have spawned that movement.

Even though the man who put the pistols together was a middle class yuppie

Yes and no -- "spawned" means gave birth to. So if you're agreeing that the Ramones and NYC is where punk started, England couldn't spawn punk too. Sure, the UK (spurred by McClaren) made it more of a spectacle and the British bands became more famous, but punk started with the Ramones.

I pontificate that we have a hardcore Ramones fan here... ;)

I think this is where we are getting mixed up, I refer to PUNK as a lifestyle which it was and to some still is which was born out of the social deprivation of the 1970s British industrial towns.

Yes the ramones music was inspiration to them which was taken in and moved on, all bands need inspiration from previous artist. I dont believe they started it more that their music enabled it.

I admit to missing my Anti Nowhere League (The League) cassettes... their original of "So What" is so much better than Metallica's cover of it...

And what the hell is a vinyl record? The collection here goes from 1890s to the early 1930s mostly. Lots of Columbia and Edison, a few (hundred) others... and all 4 still playable hand crank phonographs are pre-Depression. I know there is a 1916 Edison in the mix. There is a hand crank cylinder player in the attic, but I have no idea where the cylinders are stashed.

We are known to, from time to time, crank up "Mississippi Mud" at full volume to annoy our neighbors... descendants of our plantation's "guest workers"... yeah, I'm kinda an asshole like that...

Lmao. You old codgers are cracking me up. Who gives a feck what the kids are calling records or wearing, etc...at least their fucking riding and listening to good music. Kinda the point of the article. Love it.

Gonna throw on my Boom vinyl by The Sonics when I get home from work, just for you fuckers. Cheers. ;)

We may be old but we were there when it was cool to wear skinny jeans, haha

Tragic that skinny jeans aka drainpipes were popular with teddy boys who were though to be synonymous with rockers last time around. So skinny jeans are a leading indicator of motorcycle trends - who knew.

Punk's cool! Too bad you missed it!

Know the Wailers? Another Tacoma band, were around a little before the Sonics, influenced them, and they played some of the same venues (and shows). You'd dig 'em too.

Nope but I'll check 'em out. You guys are alright in my book. However, y'all should know that carries zero fucking weight.

Don't sell yourself short, I live my life by your book ;)
Who are you again? Haha

Anyway interesting discussion. I have a turntable and a hand crank Victoria or two, and an MP3 player I guess you could call me a timeless individual hahhaah
