Cafe seats - China vs USA

Shopping for a cafe seat for my xv750 build. Was strongly considering one from tuffside that cost $275 until I looked on eBay . Many look very similar for about one third of the price. I'm all for made in the USA but at over 3 times the cost? Anyone got any experience with the cheap seats?

If you're looking at seats from the Far East look at how it's coming. Are they coming from a US supplier, or directly from Asia? If you're getting a single seat directly from overseas, you're going to pay $75-$100 for shipping. What if you're unhappy with the product? Assuming you're dealing with a reputable seller, you still have to pay shipping, probably both ways. That will not be an issue with a US supplier. Also, consider folks in Vietnam will work for $125 per month. It's not the case in the US.

On eBay items you can always check the sellers feedback to see how many they sold and what the buyers had to say. Because they only make $125 month in VN doesn't necessarily mean the quality is poor, so money can be saved on similar items.

HA nope in the u.s. people don't have to work at all to get paid.

So sick of this crap.

They work cheap because they will starve to death if they don't. Don't feel bad for buying a seat from them.

Please nobody launch into an ignorant rant about another country's economy. Please.

I bought a seat from an overseas vendor and am very please with every aspect. Shipping was nowhere near the cost quoted above.

Are you trying to win friends, or what?

What ignorant rant are you talking about? Did I make a recommendation against buying a product from overseas? I didn't think so, but maybe I don't no how to express myself in English. My point was that the seats are cheaper to make in Asia than in the US. Shipping within the US is cheaper than across the Pacific. That's what I said, or meant to say.

I have taken an interest in these: http://www.motorcycleseatsdirect.com/

Shipping is fixed $90. I guestimated sized and weight for return shipping trans Pacific and came up with $83 on the USPS site.

Most I have paid to ship one of the seats I build to any of the six continents, and many an island that they have gone to is around $50. $90 is absurd, but a good way for them to make another $40 on the seat.

Cool! How are you shipping? USPS calculator told me a 7 lb box to Vietnam was $83. I may have guessed too big on the dimensions and that can make a very big difference, I know.

Friendship is not a prize.

No rant criticized, only an attempt to prevent.

I have experience buying a seat from overseas. It was nice. Shipping was reasonable.

No joust.

Fair enough. I've been interested in a couple of seats in the link I posted earlier. They seem to get good reviews and have happy customers. I never pulled the trigger due to the expensive shipping. If I want to return it, I pay it twice. What's the alternative shipping?

Any of the big three. Size makes a huge difference. However, anyone with a business account gets nice discounts on shipping as well.

Tough choice, but in the end decided on neither. Just ordered one from Motolanna. They are made in Thailand...
Total cost with ($64) shipping was $192.00. Now the long wait...

That's one of my favorite seats. Was out of stock the last time I checked, with an unknown ETA.
Good choice.

Dime City Cycles has a sale going on....but I also have bought seats from Vietnam, India and China. All were very good quality and their descriptions were accurate for size and width.
