Been Around the Block
Hi all, I am from the UK but currently working / living in Germany... In Germany I have been experiencing problems getting hold of some decent products. Firstly it was Glue, but now its paint remover. I am trying to get hold of some good paint remover in an Aerosol for remove paint from my bike but nowhere seems to sell it :(

I have asked in the local Baumarks (DIY Centers) but they tell me they cant sell it to the public for environmental reasons. There are apparently some places (industry) I could ask for it, but if I am seen / caught using it I will have to pay a large fine which I dont want to do... They recommended me to look online for a business or company that I can pay to strip / clean my parts...

Has anyone else experienced such problems ??? and can anyone reccomend any places where I can get such work completed ???

Kind Regards,
Jon.

Wait till you get back to the UK and get some traders strength Nitromors, its in the yellow bottles, but be very careful stuff is horrible. Or order it from the Uk to Germany. These loops and restrictions are only made so German businesses can profit.

Along with silly environmental laws, Germany along with France has created many ridiculous EU laws that means unless you are a big company like BMW or Audi you won't benefit from them. For example the UK is the still the last country that has shrugged off most of the limiting registration laws Germany has made for producing cars, try building a kit car in Germany its nearly impossible to register on the road, in France impossible.

Same goes for other goods like Nitromors, even so the Germans and French are quite happy to do severe massive scale pollution and environmental damage while doing business over in China.

@Encabulator - I was afraid that would be the case :( I have tried buying / ordering products from the UK to Germany but there is also another rule that such products are not allowed to be posted to Germany.

Its a real shame as it really puts a damper on such products... Thanks for the advice, I will look into a few more possibilities / costs and see if I can come up with anything. Hopefully I wont have to load the bike into the back of my van and drive it back to complete the project :D

Jon,

I might be driving over in July [ normally fly ], if I do drive I can always throw some in the back of the car. Let me know.

@beachcomber - thanks for the offer :) I am based in Baden Wuettemburg (close to Stuttgart). I should also be driving back in June so should be alright !!! But thanks for the offer. Whereabouts will you be driving too ??? its always good to have such a contact !

Jon - do everything you can to make it over there! TJ is a gentleman among men.

Tim........I'm blushing now ;)

OK - open house for anyone who finds themselves in the region. Just let me know in advance if you need a bed [ 13 bedrooms + plenty of "sleeping bag" space ].

I'll post the dates as soon as we have them. It's an open house format - no charges for accomodation and facilities. Pitch in for food and drink if you like. We usually have several guys from the German Flying Brick club as well as friends and neighbours.

The attached pic was the THIRD night of the first Pig Roast - got a wee bit out of hand as the previous weekend at the village fete [ on our field at the back ] - I seem to have invited the whole village - 150 + turned up !!!
