Cam chain

So i'm putting my '78 CB550 motor back together but i've run into a problem. I can't get the cam chain to go onto it's sprocket. Can anyone give me a step by step instructions on how to put it on? BTW, the CB500 motor is the same if anyone has done it on one of those.

Yes i loosened the tensioner and i have the sprocket on the correct side, the problem is that the chain is so tight that it won't go over the sprocket. I can get it part way on but then it tightens way up.
I also have a service manual but it is very vague on how its done.
