I know I will be needing a new throttle soon as the plastic is dry and cracking where the cable attaches and already broke for the return cable I just removed that and it works fine for now. I was looking at this:
and I get that it pulls the cable farther with less twist. I am just trying to wrap my head around how much if any benefit that actually could be. Have any of you tried similar?
I want someone to explain a return cable to me they are useless. if thats what broke, take that cabble off and throw it away. leave it to honda to try to push a rope for no reason and fail. search twist throttle on ebay you can get a single cable alum tube for sub 20 bucks
Then I found of the cable had snapped I went to the junk yard to pick up some other parts and see that new stuff they had that would let me patch it the guy behind the counter was like meh you don't need it and thats when I took it off. I have learned a lot since then all from my local shop and you guys here I really like the community I feel like I have become a part of.
Return cables were pointless when you get down to brass tacks. They were supposed to "return" (see what they did there lol) the throttle back to idle when you let go, so that it wouldn't get stuck at a certain point and keep the engine revving in case of, say, you coming off the bike or whatnot. In reality, they're useless so long as you perform basic maintenance on your bike and keep your cables from being kinked.
Most all the Carbs i have seen have a spring for return. a simple throtle tube should fit your controls and work fine. in my book its the cheapest safest way out. good luck getting your bike fixed i wasnt tring to muddy the water, just explain that your problem is a simple fix with the correct parts. the price of the return cabble alone should be enuff to get you going

I too am sorry my bike is totally ride-able I am actually getting ready to hit my local twisties right now. It returns fine but the throttle housing is cracking and I know one of these days soon it will break and not get me any fuel. It returns just fine... for now.
The return cable on my XT500 is essential - it has a high idle (hot start) button on the carb that can only be re-set to idle by twisting the throttle backwards (hence the return cable turns it off).
They were introduced as a safety item by some of the bike manufacturers in the late 70's / 80's. Seems kinda like overkill....although I did have the throttle on my old GS1150 jam partially open (the carb butterfly wheel snagged on a poorly routed clutch cable). I wish I had a return cable on that sucker at the time for sure

fuk it wasn't designed to be pushed, ;D, it is designed to pull the carbs closed and is done as a safety deal
as long as everything is in good condition it works PERFECTLY and is used on all bikes from the factory now for years and Years
but i agree, not totally needed, really in the real world except they are concerned about law suits
