Can your bike actually do the Ton?

First hard ride on the little bike:
Last fall Before I put my 75 honda 360 away for the winter I took her out for a spin. At a light on the edge of town I had about 5-6 stock harleys pull up behind me as the light turned green. They followed me to the bottom of cadell mountain. It has a 9% grade and a few miles of good twisties. Hitting speeds of 75-80mph (not sure how accurate that is) I dropped them about a quarter of the way up. After i dropped them I stayed on the throttle and pulled hard through the turns. With my bikes poor lean angle I was sliding my ass off the seat and dropping a knee at almost every turn . At the top I pulled over at my parents home and waited at the end of the drive. After I stopped I could still feel the vibration over my entire body. As they passed they all gave me big thumbs up. I'm glad they didn't stop because I was having sewing machine legs and my heart was about to beat out of my chest. Back in the day I topped out the GSXR many times (lost my license yada, yada ::))and I can't ever recall feeling that way. At my age a vintage bike gives me all I need (even if it is considered slow ;)). I tell the wifey this all the time, "It's not what ya got, it's how you use it ";D

Here is a pic of the bicycle unit I use:

It is wired to the hall effect sensor down by the wheel. It reads speed, distance, time, timer, and resettable max speed (uhh...last trip...shown at the bottom :-\). I think this was less than $40. The only thing I would change would be to add a backlight.

not yet on any of my bikes. my friend's RF600 got me up to 130, scary fast, won't go up there again unless I'm wearing full body armor!

my cb550K has made it once. All my mates tell me it shouldnt be possible

Tell them all you need is 30hp with gearing to suit, some clipons and rearsets. My 125 stroker sure didn't do it because of its sheer power haha. Seriously, you should be able to gear that 550 with what...50hp on tap?...up to around 180~200km/h depending on your riding position and streamlining (if any).

Cheers - boingk

Yeh, My Aprilia will do the ton. In about 4.5 seconds!......... ;)

Oh, you refer to cafe racers. I can't wait until I see what my CB350 will do. I am thinking just over the ton. And to tell the truth, That is more than you need to have fun.

The fastest I have been on a bike was 260 km/h, I think that is about 162 mph. Under controlled conditions of course. ;)
