Canada: Where to buy batteries? And what kind?

Been Around the Block
Hello from Winnipeg! (Insert joke about weather) I've got a few questions for fellow Canadian DTTers :

1. I want to buy a Lithium battery such as one from Shorai or Ballistics. Do I really have to buy from the US and pay a $50 shipping fee and then probably customs as well? Isn't there any Canadian retailer out there?

2. More motorcycle specific : I have a 76 XS 750. Do I really need an 8 cell lithium or can I get away with the smaller 4 cell?

Thanks in advance to anyone with advice...

Hay Manas,
there are retailers in Canada and I have seen the ballistic batteries sold at www.royaldistributing.com (canadian store)

Cheers

Couldn't really find any batteries on their Motorcycle Catalogue. Looks more oriented to motorcycle clothing and accessories.

here is the page from their website that has the batteries

http://www.royaldistributing.com/Catalogues/Main/2012-Spring-Fall/page345.html

actually go to page 135, they have all the listing there

Contact Glen at Flying Squirrel Motorcycles - he's here in Toronto and ships. He's a good guy - I buy my Shorai batteries etc. from him.

Thanks for the links! I did make an account at Flying Squirrel and it looks pretty good..although I still get charged $16 shipping for a $150 battery

However during my time Googling I also found a place in Quebec that goes by the name MecaMoto. The website is http://mecamoto.ca/en

And they offer free shipping on all orders over $120 in Canada. I might end up giving Mecamoto a try...

BCL motorsports in Mississauga is also a Shorai dealer

I'll second this, I just bought a shorai from Glen at fsmotorcycles. shoot him an email with what you want exactly and I'm sure he can help you out

I can third that actually. Although I haven't bought any batteries yet, I have bought some carb rebuild kits and I have to say that the service is excellent. He replies right away and the prices are reasonable.

Just a note for people using the website : if what you want isn't listed, just shoot Glen an email and he'll find a way to get what you need...

If you go lithium ion, make sure to upgrade your regulator and rectifier. Otherwise you may have issues

bought my battery from www.saskbattery.com

its a canadian company out in Regina. bought an agm battery for my bike(cb400f), came pretty quick, and was cheaper than buying it locally from a store.

good info, i need to downsize from my old liquid batt, does anyone know anywhere outwest like calgary that carries the newer stuff?

i ended up ordering a 4 Cell from http://antigravitybatteries.com/ and ended up paying $140 shipped to my door no customs fees or nothing and got it in about 6 business days. cant complain.

keep in mind i did not find out until later and after reading the instructions you NEED to update your voltage regulator on your older bikes to run these batteries proper.

I ordered a Kohler/John Deere regulator off ebay meant for a mower for about $30 shipped to Canada.

Thanks
DUstin
