cannonball thoughts anyone?

Mr.E

Got to keep the loonies on the path...
Just curious here. The thought pops up in my head every once in a while that a cannonball run would be cool for cafe's. Or even bikes in general. I nevr knew one existed till I read the article in Motorcycle Classics a while back about the pre 1916 run from outer banks nc to cali. Funny too, since I was literally standing where they started the previous day and had no idea. Yay. So no reading about the lake erie loop and other road races, its just got me wondering what the possibility or a larger scale race involving classics (like most of what we have) but not as old as the cannonball last year. Cause let's face it, most of us are too poor to play that game. Thoughts anyone?

you know who cannonball baker was right?....lol
a bike run would be fun
they do small runs like the Giro

Yup, I know who cannonbal baker was. And and also the burt reynolds movie that was a saturday afternoon favorite of me in my youth.

Id though something like a race from outer banks nc, to key west fla might be cool. Or any other location in the range of 600-1000 miles or so.

Thats awesome... Almost as awesome as Vons avatar... I dont know what that mystical beast is, but its crazy.

How about a relay race to get everyone involved. Have a DTT token that could be passed from rider to rider and see how long it takes to go from coast to coast. Pre 1982 and 550cc and smaller should include most people? Just a thought.
Kev

Hey I like that idea. Or even have a few tokens for different classes of bikes so us +550 peeps can run too. That would rock to track the tokens progress across the nation, or anywhere for that matter.

The guys over at SOHC4 did the relay. Havent checked back in to see how it turned out. If we were to get something similar together, count Pittsburgh as a stop for sure.

Ha thanks. Its some character from D&D I think... I saw it in some article about how crazy people are about video/roll playing games anymore and thought, "wow that is fucking rediculous, its my new avatar".

Yup, there certainly is some weird shit in D&D/video games/mythology:

Oops, NSFW

Edited for NSFWness.

You may have just made this a NSFW thread now. Hahaha.......gross.

Back on topic, this is a cool idea. A relay would be neat, but a bunch of guys cruising together would be cooler. And since you Easterners are excluding us west-half folks from the DTT get-together, how about heading out west? ;D

Maybe something of an east meets west rally/ride? Id love the notion of it. Although I would have to wonder how many of us would actually complete the ride without breaking down... just re nature of our bikes, lol. Wasn't there a dtt group that rode to the salt flats last year from Ohio or somewhere?

The SOHC4 relay is kicking ass across America as we speak. From Florida to California back out east through PA/ME/DE/NY, etc. And I think that it is going to go back out to the Pacific Northwest as well.

I would love to do something like this with the DTT.

East meets west... I like the idea of it; but where do we meet? Somewhere in the middle of the US I assume as central canada is all farms.
I would ride from Toronto with some people if this was going to go down! Im also happy to help organize/make a site dedicated to the ride.

Yeah, I can't think of much in kansas that makes me want to race there... south dakota on the other hand....

EDIT: not trying to hate on kansas, I think its a nice state for scenery, it just falls kinda flat for bike racing (pun intended).

I would seriously be down... Are you guys actually serious or are we talking smoke here?

Depending on how close to the west coast it would be (I'll be in Roseburg, OR this summer), I'm definitely down. I can't take off big stretches of time because of my job, but I could do a few days for sure.

South Dakota...you know they're very VERY anti-speeding there...
