CARBS......ugh.....

I need help. I have recently obtained 2 sets of carbs. The first set is MIKUNI KOGYO. a little rough looking, no other markings. These may have come off of an 83 kawasaki 650, but not sure (the guy wasnt either). The 2nd set says "KEIHIN VG", again no other markings (may have come off a CB750. Ok, with that said, I got these because I wanted to replace my KEIHIN CV carbson my cb900 cafe build.

I need to know a few things:

1. Am I able to rebuild and use these carbs for my CB900 cafe build so as to rid my bike of the dreaded CV carbs?

2. What model of carbs are these?

3. Can I take the carbs apart, and attack them to the original rails that hold the CVs together, for the proper spacing?

4. Lastly, do they make an adapter of some kind that would allow me to split the carb bank in 1/2, or an adapter to allow 1 carb (maybe an older harley carb) to feed 2 cyls?

Just throwing these out there. Wanting to know what i should do for carbs. I am building this in my garage (6 to 7 months now), and I sure as hell cannot afford a set of Keihin CRs. Any help would be appreciated. I am NOT a carb man. I know the basics of how they work, but i am more into the engine mechanics and electrical. Thanks guys.....(and any gals).......

Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Or, would I be better off ebaying these and just re-jetting the original and newly rebuilt Keihin CV carbs and putting on pods, and calling it a day.
 
The Mikuni should have a set of numbers/letters painted on somewhere, usually intake side or vacuum chamber
It's very close to colour of carb body and difficult to see.
They are only about 2mm high
The Kei-Hin are semi downdraft carbs, could be off FZR or CBR, definitely not off any CB750 I've seen
They will also have model number on them somewhere, may be stamped or etched/painted

The Keihin carbs have these numbers on the bowls 20ABCZ.....the "Z" looks to have been restamped "L"...20ABCL...on all 4 bowls.

I know some builders have used older GSXR (?) insulators on cb900F cafe builds with Mikuni carbs. I just want to know if I am heading in the right direction. Maybe I should re-jet my Keihin CVs and ditch the airbox?

Does this info help in my quest? I have exhausted Goodle in my search to no avail.....unless I am approaching the search wrong. I have checked with another site (cb750.com), and all I get from the oldtimers it "leave it the way it was from the factory", or "use the right carbs with the airbox"....Kind of defeats the purpose of a cafe, doesnt it?

.....SMDM....all i wanted were Mikuni smoothebores or Keihin CRs........ :(
 
The Mikuni numbers will be specific for a certain bike and model year
I don't have time right now but I'll check some Suzuki manuals later
Measure the bore size, it will make identification slightly easier
 
The top set of carbs is off a Suzuki. i have a 750GS with those same carbs, i'm in the middle of rebuilding them, had everything torn apart and looks great but i can't find the float bowl gaskets to save my life. my numbers are 47070 C074 though, apparently google doesn't know wtf that is.

p.s unless your a miracle worker those parts look pretty corroded, i have a bin full of extra mikuni's exactly like that in alot better shape with all the little pieces you need to put humptey back together again. it's not real organized but i'd be willing to send them to you, not sure how set you are with doing something with the mikuni's. you'd need to save the bracket bar that holds them together but the rest you could probly toss (if you find float bowl gaskets that match let me know)
 
The ones with cast airbox won't work as they are semi-downdraft and need to be mounted at a pretty extreme angle
