I've got some newer and some old (70's) leather jackets. I'm realy unsure of how to preserve 'em!

I went to a leather repair guy and he just shrugged his shoulders and handed me a spray bomb of preservative. He didn't exactly exude confidence. For that reason, I didn't buy!

So, what do you guys recommend?? ???

I remember "back in the day" using some kind of paste or cream on my ball glove to keep it in great shape. Is there something like that "out there"??

I want these jackets to last forever!! ;D

Thanks Dude! I've been on their web site and their stuff looks good! Thanks for your support! That's what I need to "buy with confidence"! ;D

My jackets and boots should be well on their way to a long and glorious life! :D 8)

Figured I would bump this old thread....

I just used some Leather Honey on my new British Motorcycle Gear Montana jacket and my Sidi boots. I must say that the stuff worked great and was easy to apply. Highly recommend.

I've been told by leather shops to use Mink oil... Several Brands are available but I used to have a can of Kiwi (the same people who make shoe polish) around here somewhere.

On a side note, I once got an old A-2 Bomber Jacket (replica) that a guy had rubbed down with VASOLINE before sticking it in storage some years. Sure, it was shiny but turned it ROCK HARD, made me want to drag it behind the bike down a gravel road for 10 miles... Wound up giving it away cuz I outgrew it. :-\

I've used a lot of leather conditioners and I've settled on this German Fitform beeswax cream product. It's made for saddles but works on any leather. You can find it at horse tack shops.

Good to see this "renewed" interest in the thread! ;)

I asked the original question and you've responded splendidly, if slowly! Likewise, I have been slow, and haven't bought any product yet. :)

In the next few weeks, I'll make a choice. Thanks everyone! 8)

I was just wondering about this the other day, what to use on my leathers to help preserve them.
Thanks for all the tips.

Anyone try Pecard leather dressing? I can't find it here in Canada but heard good things about it.

Personally, I would stay away from the mink oil. They can contain many "unnatural" chemicals that may not be good for the leather in the long run. The natural beeswax stuff is the way to go. I used to use mink oil until I did a little research about what goes into it. Obenauf's makes some good products that work really well - I use it quite often. here's a good page to check out - not jackets, but a good leather care instruction manual none the less - http://russellmoccasin.com/leather_care.html

Well I've got a few pieces of Ghurka, a wallet, check book and money clip that I've been treating with Mink Oil for over 20 years with no ill effect...YMMV.

Cool! I love it when people have strong opinions! :D

Gotta get my hands on something soon! :)
