CB 350 update

Less is more
Here is the latest update on the CB. I just put the tank back on, the exhaust back on, added rear sets, and worked on a few other bits. I'm not done with the rear sets yet. This was just a test fit. I need to space them out further to clear the exhaust and to make them a bit more comfortable. Sorry about the pic quality.

Next on my list of things to sort out will be some street tires, gauges, lowering the front end a tad and bringing the headlight down so it is level with the tank. For the tires I was going to go with Avons, not 100% on that though. I was planning on getting some gauges from MikeXS. I don't have too much experience with these, but I know a few of you have them. Can anyone offer me some advice? I like the 2.25 diameter but the speedo goes up to 160mph. I think the 140mph might be a better fit. Can’t make up my mind on that, but I'm not in a rush.

I want to bring the front end down an inch, but I don't know how that will affect the handling. Other than that I plan on keeping everything how it is for now. I couldn't be happier with how the bike came out and I could stare at it for hours. I can't wait for spring to get it back on the road.

Really nice, looks great. Love the tank, you do the denting yourself? How about the rearsets, how did you go about those? Reason I ask is I'm currently in the middle of doing them on my 350. Working on the shifter side now. How did you accomplish the brake side. I like how yours clears the exhaust, I don't think mine will and I'll have to figure out a different route for the exhaust.

Nice work, must be a nice feeling!

Yah, I did the denting myself. It was surprisingly easy to get both sides uniform. I had someone else do the body work though. The rear sets are Raasks with rubber pegs. I decided to go with Raasks over torazzies because they came with just about all of the hardware I needed to set them up. I also thought they look the part of the vintage bike. That being said I am probably going to have to trim down the shift rod. It is about a CM to long. I'm also going to have to space them out about another inch and angle the shift and break leavers down further for comfort. On the break side I had to take the rear break out of the hub so i could invert the break arm. I haven't figured out how I'm going to hook up the break light or if I'm going to hook it up to the foot break at all. It will all come together in time.

u should lower the headlight. ..

That is next on my list of things to do. I'm in no rush though. I'll pick up some dust seals for the forks and some headlight clamps to bring the headlight down a few inches. Does anyone have any recomendations? I was just planning on getting the clamps witht he 3 holes in them I see all over the place. Cheap and simple.

How painful is it to hook the CB speedo cable up to those gauges? Is the ratio the same? I need to get some smaller gauges and those might fit the bill.

The cables hook right up. From what I have read, all the ratios are the same. The bike isn't on the road right now so I am not 100% on that. I hope everything works or I am going to feel like a tool.

Lovely looking bike very taste full and not over done. Could try a cb500t tank on it to enhance thelook a bit :)
its is a common thing to do

This was mine in 1986, i raced it at cadwell, brands hatch, and mallory. This was just befre it had rearsets and new pipes for racing but i rode it on the road likes this.

The rear sets are Raasks with rubber pegs.

Now for the thousand dollar question : where did you purchase the rearsets, I'm currentley looking for a very straight forward rearset and these look perfect, I'm working on a 72' CB350 ( Barn find ) as we speak.
thanks, -P-

also take a look at these if you want straightforward rearsets...

tarozzi rearsets are just too cool.

I'm actually attempting to figure that out myself. I think they are the stock jets, but I'm not sure since I'm the 3rd or 4th owner. I'm running lean but I put a cooler spark plug in to deal with the issue. They are NGK B9ES. Stock is B8ES. The second number is the temp of the spark. The higher the number the cooler the spark. Once I figure out what jets are in there I'll rejet.

Below is how the bike looks now and it is about to get another overhaul. I have a bunch of parts on the way.

I saw a very similar bike in Chicago today... not to take away from the pure awesomeness of this bike... thought maybe you were from the CHI for a minute..

Where did you find that tank?

I made it. I got a spare CB350 tank, coated the inside, made a template for the knee dents, banged on it with a plastic hammer, stripped the paint, had a friend help me with the smoothing of the bumps and paint, and thats that. It is my favorite part of the bike. Next is going to be making a seat from scratch.
