Been Around the Block
Hey dtt , I have a 76 cb750 super sport that is being uhhm "rebuilt' slowly but surly and im trying to figure out some options for an oil tank relocation. Im going to be moving the battery and would also like to move the oil tank . My question to you is I had the thought of taking the stock gas tank and partitioning it of into two and using the tail end of the inside of the stock gas tank to house my oil tank, im wondering if logistically speaking is this possible?

thanks

you could do that, needs to be properly baffled
why though ? you are going to have a very hot oil tank in your lap that way ???
plus you will be heating up the gas
the tank and battery is in the best location possible, stock ... you must going for the OPEN look like everybody else ?

I am trying to go for the open look, if the tank is not the best option do you have any suggestions for what might be another option?

no i don't, stock location is best
it is a lot of work to go for a look just because everybody else is

When (if?) I ever get the SOHC I want, I'm thinking I might go with something long and thin and have it double as a rear fender.

anywhere you put it is going to be a compromise, the best way to do it in a steel tank is probably to build a big recess under the tank, and build a separate oil tank that fits inside the recess in the main tank, allowing air to circulate around the oil tank because it gets to the same temperature as the engine and steel doesn't do squat for dissipating heat.

actually, never thought of this, but why not build a frame with a large diameter backbone, like the egli 750's, and then use the backbone tube as the oil tank??? problem solved
