Cb/Cj 360 Engine - New Build

Hi Guys,

New to this forum, and new to bike building so here goes!

Bit about me, Ive ridden bikes for the last ten years or so (since i was 12/13) And have owned a bike nearly constantly since then, but now fancy having a go at building a cafe sytle bike. I bought a box of bits from someone on another forum for a good price, and in this I got a cj360 frame, and a cb 250 frame, as well as 2 CJ360 engines and CB 360 engine. as well as some forks, swing arms wheels clocks etc. I have just about enough to put one bike together at the minute, and it wouldnt need much more to get 2 bikes out of the bits.

I want to get the engines running, and get one bike together to have to ride, then with one of the engines, will try do some mods and upgrades to get some extra power from it and put together another bike with it.

So basically Id like to start out getting one of the CJ engines going, then do the CB engine at a later date.

What are the bits I need to look at to make sure its going to start up properly, I imagine an ignition upgrade is recommended? Is there anything in particular that needs looking at?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry if I offended Trek, not my intention.

I do appreciate the link you sent, however it wasn't quite the information I was looking for. I was hoping for a little bit of insight from someone who had experience rebuilding a 360 motor, with common issues to look out for as I went through the build.

make sure you got the "new" updated style oil pickup.
good cam chain guide tensioner slides. (not cracked or too badly worn)
new clutch discs are a good idea
heavy duty clutch springs also.
clean out the centrifugal oil cup.
check cam free play (side to side) shims
check cam bearing surfaces for wear (head)
inspect cam lobes, tappet faces
test for leaking valves
check compression
fresh piston rings
install a heavy duty cb750 cam chain
hone and measure cylinder wear
clean all oil passages...modify the passages in the lower case.

Heres the link to my engine build...Its long but has a lot of good info from a few of the most knowledgeable 360 guys on DTT.
