cb/cj 360 parts interchangeability

Hi All,

Currently rebuilding a CB360 engine, but also got a couple CJ360 engines sat around that came with the bike when i bought it. Currently at the top end and had a couple of questions.

Are the cam shafts the same between the 2 bikes? One of the CJs shafts are in better condition than the CB one, so was hoping to install that, is the profile and lift etc the same?

Does the CJ have the updated cam chain tensioner? Again will pick the best set. What do i need to look for to check if it is the updated or old tensioner?

I have already done the oil pick up mod from the CJ.

Cheers all

The cams are the same. Couldn't tell you about the tensioner. The ends of the updated tensioner curl away from the cam chain

Scroll down and there is a picture of them side by side

Most of the parts are interchangeable, but the CJ will have the latest and best versions of the parts as they were only available the last two years of the 360. This includes the cam chain tensioner set and oil pickup.

CJ does come with a five speed transmission, though. I prefer a swap to an early CL for the six speed and the taller 3rd gear. Also, the CJ frame is also a bit different, which accommodates a different rear brake pedal (necessary for the two into one exhaust). The exhaust diameters are different, too, so the collars are not interchangeable. CJ is also missing the center stand.

Cheers for the replies guys!

Will use the best cam and rockers out of the 3 then.

Will look at the tensioners as well and make sure they are the updated kind before fitting. Thanks for the link plagrone, very helpful!

Hopefully get the engine build complete this weekend!
