Cb100 Times three (with bigger motors) :-)

cb100cafe

Been Around the Block
Back in december I got the motorcycle bug. I read for a long time and bought a few things. Recently I bought alot of things. So what's the story? I bought a non running CB100 back in april and have been working on it like a mad man. I found a local yard that has alot of decent parts (and well ebay) so I figured as I grew and learned about a few things I'd be changing things and if I bought anything I didn't want on my cafe racer I'd stick it on the other motorcycles and sell them.

Which one is mine? I'm not sure yet. I have a funny feeling I'll be content with progess at first and then want to change more things. Basically i'm building a few motorcycles and i'll see how it goes and take it from there. Is it going well? Yes but it's not completely about building the motorcycles. I'm also investing some time and energy into possibly building a business around powdercoating and polishing, deburring, rust removal etc. I have an art background and i'm converting my kilns over to powdercoating ovens. Just about everything fits in the kilns minus the frame.

As of right now One frame, fork, tank, rear swing arm setup is for figuring out things and messing around with color choices. Another frame setup is for figuring out how to stick the bigger motors in there and the rear set setup. The other frame might do some traveling from time to time with me to different shops that I know in the area getting prices and figuring out a few custom ideas that are not out of my league but I don't have the right tooling right now to do it.

As of right now I'm rebuilding the cb100 bottom end in my spare time to learn about the engines and test out some of my toys for the future business and I just got an XL185 motor sitting in one of the CB100 frames. There are a few issues but seemingly not to bad to deal with it. I modified audis as a hobby for 12 years. The bikes are a form of a break while I figure out life and a few things.

I'm probably a toyota salesman starting in a few weeks to a month which is major change for me. I don't plan on doing the salesman thing forever but it's a good amount of $$$$ and i'll invest it properly (hopefully).

So ultimately the goal since i have three Cb100/Cb125 frames is to build the three of them and finish them and decide if I'm going to keep which one and or move onto something different.

I like the small frame and 4 stroke 1 cylinder engines because they don't take up alot of space and for the most part pretty easy to work on them, not to mention good gas milage, it fits in the back of my truck, and it be fun to get looks from everyone on a bike that weighs less than 200 pounds when all is said and done.

I'll get a few pics up from time to time but as of right now nothing is really impressive.

You'd be surprised how much others would appreciate to see your work. Works in progress (especially really unique ones) can be an inspiration to others.

Post pics, we (or at least I) would love to see them.

I will trust me but not quite yet. It's a bit messier than I really want and if i start to take this stuff serious I want to seem on the professional side of things. As of right now I'm not living exactly where I want to live and the bikes, kilns, tools, are in a few places.

I'll have some decent pictures by the end of the week. There is a chance if things go well I'm going to live in a MILL in a live work studio in a few months. IF that's the case it will be paradise for me.

Having an art background and a mechanical background (Both self taught) is a wonderful thing and the fact that i'm working on motorcycles vs cars is just lovely and yes these small motorcycles put a very large smile on my face.

I have a bad habit of going over the top or doing things people don't often do even though it's outside of my abilities at times. If I want to do it then I do it and I know the right people to help me get it done and in the end the education is worth it to me. I allready have alot of nice custom ideas in the works with these hondas. You would think that there isn't alot of fun to have with these small motorcycles but it's so wrong and if anything I think i'm going to have alot of fun breaking some rules really soon when it comes to some "trick" stuff.

It's weird how things can get out of control as far as being "custom" with motorcycles and how as I grow and change my overall concept with the motorcycles. The local motorcycle yard is 80% CB hondas which makes things interesting to say the least.

I was just there for the past few hours and basically been building one of my motorcycles to some degree at the junk yard pulling parts from other motorcycles and seeing how they look on the junkyard Cb125. I think it's kinda funny and I luck out because the owner is a nice guy who knows his stuff so when I pick up a tank and say what's this off he knows exactly what bike it is which is awesome. The way things are going the only thing that will be CB100/cb125 is the frame and rear swing arm.

So that's a little of my life. I put pictures of the ceramics stuff because at some point soon I shall be using the kilns (that's the small kiln I own:p) for powdercoating if things go well. Ceramics keeps the women happy in my life when they are around hehe..

to say the very least.

So I bought a set of Cl125s scrambler wheels off of ebay thinking they might work on the CB100. Well they don't work but ironically I might get a Cl125s scrambler semi complete at some point from the yard. It might be one that I build and keep forever if I do get it. It might take forever to find parts and rebuild it.

For some reason i'm digging the old school scramblers. Also there is a 305 barn find my friend told me about at a wedding that he wants me to go look at shortly. I have a funny feeling I'm going to be knee deep in motorcycles soon.

Here is a picture of a cl125 scrambler that I have an interest in but it's in really rough shape in comparision to this one:

yamaha tank is going on vs the stock tank. It's a little longer, little bit wider, and cleaner looking in my opinion. It clears the frame for the most part and only a little work to make it fit properly. The stock tank might become the seat because my niece dropped it on me and dented it after I put some work into it.

Been farting around with a few ideas. I think I'm going to convert over to a belt drive system. 8) I found a few pulleys I think I might be able to get to work on the bike. It's not going to happen for a while because I have plenty of other things to do but the sooner I order the part (on the plus side I can send it back if I don't like it) the sooner I can have the machine shop do some work to it and the rear wheel because if the world was ending and i told them I needed it ASAP it would mean in two months. This being said I'm looking at a few other machine shops to deal with these days.

Also I figured out the coolest idea for the cheap man's velocity stack 8)

Tomorrow I have an interview with Nissan. I will be a saleman for either toyota or nissan starting soon. I'm hoping to get the job with nissan. It's a little more risky but there is alot more money to be made to be honest. I'm investing the money into powdercoating and a few other things so I'll take the risk and use the stability of the powdercoating and (soda blasting at some point) to make my life interesting.

off to my interview with nissan. I've got another cool idea. Which involves one of the spare frames, a rear wheel, a swing arm, some spare shocks, and fender, and tailight and saddle bags. 8)

Grocery getter? Problem might be solved.

i decided to probably make some changes and it's not major. I'm still building a motorcycle with the CB100/125 frames however my motorcycle is going to be a sl125 frame. I'd explain why but i'll leave it at that for now.

The first Cb100 is staying close to stock but gutted, lightened, made "cool" and keep me content with it. I'm not going to over the top or custom with it. Motor will probably be a CB125 setup or if I finish up the CB100 bottom end i'm building I might make it a CB145 setup via a 750 piston and Cb125 rod and bored out sleeve.

The Sl125 is getting the XL185 motor. At least this is the concept in my mind right now.

I'm also getting a 305 CL77 scrambler but i doubt i will be keeping it. It's getting fixed up quick and sold.
