CB125CR Build

I also notched my switches to fit the wires. my problem is my brake lever is super tight now and my front brakes won't let go all the way.
I like what you did with the seat, might have to try that.

Hmmm. Unless the bolt you are using is in the wrong place you should not have any issue with the brake. The switch housing has nothing to do with the brake lever motion. The other possible cause of the problem may be your cable is too long and has too many curves or bends in it causing it to stick. Try a shorter cable or rerouting it so there are less bends. The best way to test this is to disconnect the cable from the brake and see if the cable works freely with the lever. If not, try to lube the cable or replacing it. If it does work freely then check the brake caliper to be sure it is working properly. If the brake caliper is good, then try the hooking up the whole thing and let the cable just be loose and not fasten to the bike with no bends, if that works, get a shorter cable. Hope that helps. -MBS

it worked fine before I took everything apart. It looks like a brand new cable and I know the guy that I bought the bike from and he's not one to half ass anything. I'll figure it out.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I was criticizing or imply anything was half assed. Please don't take offense. I was just offering ideas for a possible cause and trying to help from my own experiences. I am sure its something you will figure out. Let us know. -MBS

Oh I didn't take offense and I know you're just trying to help. I appreciate the advice. I can't wait to see what your bike looks like when it's done since we have the exact same bike and it would be nice to see what kind of results I can achieve. My problem is that I have very limited knowledge of how to do this stuff so most of what I do (wiring mostly) comes out looking like crap. Yours, however is looking very nice so far

Thanks for clearing that up. I am no expert either, just take my time and wing it. Started welding for the first time only a month or so ago. But thanks for the compliment. I am not sure I have seen your bike. Throw up a link if you have a build thread. -MBS

I haven't started a build thread but here's an old picture of the bike. Now it has new tires, new chain, new seat cover...etc.. 1978 cb125s - same as you

Thats a nice looking bike, better than what I started with. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Yeah my workshop is small so its hard to get a full side shot. But I will see what I can do. We just got a foot of snow, so it might be a little while. As far as the batter goes. I have not figured that out yet. I would like to hide it under the bump stop / cowl. I just need to figure out a way to do it. I have a couple old stock battery boxes laying around I am going to experiment with. I'll post some pics when I figure something out.

I wouldn't be expecting a "build thread" persay from me. As I said earlier, I know absolutely zilch about mechanics and wiring is about as french to me as...well...french. We also got about 1/2 foot of snow here last night and the bike is in my dads garage AND my wife and I just bought a house so we're throwing money into that. I'll start a "here's what I did" thread once I get going on it.

mine is a CB125S-2 i think?!?!

its a 1975.

i am lounging on my honeymoon and combing the net for a proper seat. the ones i've seen so far that i "think" would fit are about 24' long and 5"
at the front and 7"-8" at the rear.

anyone closer than 800 miles to their bike that could help me out with some measurements?

the idea is to order the seat while i'm gone and have it at the house when i return so i can get started as soon as i get home.

I've already got some scrambler pipes waiting on me... (thanks, man!)

i'm wanting to swap the seat for fiberglass, get a smaller taillight, lose both fenders and the chaingaurd, most likely ditch both the speedo AND tach, some smaller ears, broomstick bars, a gel battery, and speed drill everything that can take it.

my goal is to weigh more than the bike.

Awesome, I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Here is the listing of the seat I bought and used with measurements. It fit the frame PERFECT. Just had to make a mount system. Check it out, I am sure they have more to sell:

MBS.
so you busted my stones for not looking I have seen the light. it's very nice and I am going to have to take the old girl for a spin once she's done if you don't mind.

interesting observation? you type like you talk. I find that curious. I don't think I type as I speak (especially with all my typos)

just curious.

Now, if we could get rid of all this damn snow. I rode on Sunday afternoon for like 2 hours on the vespa. Had a great ride and Monday morning she is covered with 9 to 10 inches of the white stuff. Maybe I should get a ski front end setup. might be fun LOL

Cheers
Mortikan

Sure you can take it for a spin! I never noticed I that my typing and talking were the same, I hope its a good thing. Anyway, a ski set up would be interesting, though a lot of conversion for just a few snowy days. Bet it would be fun though. I am still raving about the game dinner last friday. That chili was awesome. We will have to hang out again when we all emerge from our igloos!  ;D

Re: CB125CR Build ***UPDATE***

Well, the weather was really nice this past weekend and I was able to get the exhaust done with exception to the baffle. The wrap was an ichy experince but looks great with the stainless zip ties. I painted the end of the exhaust pipe because there were some acid stains that I had not noticed when I made the exhaust. I don't have the wiring done quite yet and there is no battery setup yet either. This is how she looks now. Since there were some requests for full bike shots I took a few. I think I may paint the tank and seat cowl an aviator grey color though. I still have to put the foot pegs back on, figure out a rear tail light setup and install some rear signals. I also need to find a place for the ugly license plate and pu ta baffle in. -MBS

hay mbs.
i like the build, exh looks great. i do agree, even though i do like the tank like that, that it needs to be painted with the
seat. like that you have painted the exh tip, matches the bike.
like the mirrors, where did you get them??????? and how much did you pay for them????
i like the way you have done the seat cover, can you un botton and take some pics, i was torn on doing it but it looks like it is
easy to do.
i hope!!!
any way if you could help me with that it would be great.
looks great can't wait to see it done.
later.
