CB160 electrical woes....

Alright, so I'm dealing with a few different issues here... I have rewired the bike and followed the wiring diagram...

Here's what I'm getting....

I plugged the battery in and hooked up all the wires. when I test with a circuit tester. The Black (backbone wire) works so the neutral switch works and the indicator light in the speedo housing works for the neutral.

1st issue.... However, the headlight does not seem to want to work. The brown wire from the ignition switch has power according to the circuit tester, yet the lamps (speedo lighting) attached to the brown wire are not coming on as well as the headlight not working... I'm trying to bypass the left handlebar control switch... What would I need to do in order to jump the headlight high/low control in order to make the headlight work without the control switch? Is this what is causing me problems??? (i hope that makes sense)

2nd issue, same as the headlight, the taillight and brake are not working... Again, the White wire (going to ignition switch) has power going to it, the blue wire (going to the stop switch) is connected and I put in a fresh bulb so that's not the issue... So what am I missing here?

3rd (and probably more important as of now...) issue... When I touch the circuit tester to the ignition switch, the black, white and brown wires all have power to them... However, the Yellow and Pink, (the ones going to the stator) do not show power going to them... Does this mean the ignition switch is bad? I touched the circuit tester to the back of the ignition switch where it's soldered, which you can see in the picture below...

Your ignition switch is fine if your test is as you said.

It seems to be more of a ground issue. Check your grounds. Green Wires are grounds. For instance, your headlight shows 2 wires, Red, and Blue. Red is low beam, blue is high beam. What that schematic doesn't show is the ground wire for the headlight. There should be a 3rd wire, usually green, and it should be grounded.

Yellow and pink are AC volts from the alternator. They get jumped together so the alternator puts out more current when the switch is on. They will have no 12V DC, only AC volts when the engine is running. Engine off, they have no volts.

Hi Mydlyfkryzis,

Thanks for that... so when I touch the circuit tester to the back of the ignition switch, it shouldn't light up? That's good to know if that's the case... at least I don't have to worry about that problem... hahaha...

There is a green wire that is coming off the headlight, which I have grounded to a screw on the speedometer... does that sound right? Also, do you know, is there a way with this wiring, for me to bypass the left handle bar control switch? I know I wouldn't be able to test the high and low beams, but I want to see if I can at least get the headlight up and running...

And should the taillight have a ground as well? Could that be my issue with the taillight, as I'm not getting it to work either... but it only has two wires coming out of the back of it...

Thanks again for your help...
