CB200 Front Brake problem

Been Around the Block
Hey guys got another issue! After changing the handle bars out my front brake is frozen!! at first i thought it may be the cable, but after further inspection I realized the the front brake caliper is siezed. Is there a way to rebuild the brake caliper or should i just go out and find a new (ebay) one??

Thanks for all the help!

z1enterprises.com might have a rebuild kit for your bike. It might be cheaper to get a new caliper off of ebay but it might need to be rebuilt anyways. Do you know why the caliper siezed?

No clue!! I pulled the caliper off and there was a bunch of gunk in it! I cant get the caliper to move at all, where the brake cable comes into the caliper looks like it might be rusted tight..

Hmmm? The only thing I could think is to disassemble the caliper as much as possible, brake cable and all and let it soak in some degreaser or acetone. If it seems to be rusted you may need a new cable and something to eat away the rust. Check out your local parts store, there should be an ample amount of chemicals there. Finding a replacement online may be difficult or expensive since the 200 was the only model with a cable front disc brake.

Word, thanks for all the help.. Also thanks for the tip on Ebay UK!! I found a great deal on a set of pistons and rings, and since my girlfriend is from England and her brother is coming over for Christmas I wont have to pay international shipping!!!

I've encountered the same situation with my CB125. You can't buy the whole assembly from Honda but you can buy the parts to rebuild it. In keeping with the cafe theme, I just decided to remove the entire assembly since I very rarely use front brakes anyway. Not to mention it shaves off almost 5 pounds. Before I removed it, I bought a replacement off flea bay that was supposed to be in good working order and was frozen as well. I'm gonna send both of them to my old man in SD, he thinks he can make 1 out of 2. We'll see what he comes up with.

I would love to just pull the front brake off, unfortunately North Carolina law requires that all rod bikes have a front brake!

Actually, as a licensed inspector, I know that North Carolina law requires you to have one brake on your bike, either hand or foot operated. So as long as you've got one you're good to go, unless there's some other statute that states differently. I'd like to see any info you have on such statutes. Anyway good luck with the caliper they're a bitch to find in good working order.

REALLY??? If that is the case than I will just rip the f*%#@# off!!! Where are you licensed at?

No front brake!?!?

I guess you don't plan on stopping in less than 100 yards?

The front is a disc because that's the one you are supposed to use. The back on is just supposed to help out.

Yes I know this, I have every intention on keeping the front brake on! I would be stupid not to!!
