Cb200 - Indy Style

Hey all, I'm finally back on here to do a project thread on my '74 cb200. I'm going for a cafe racer look, with my own little twist to it. It's my first bike that I'm doing, with some help from my buddies that own a shop here in Indy.

Here it is the day I got it. A friend of a friend had it sitting in a trailer for years and forgot he had it, when his son needed the trailer to go on tour with his band he found the bike and gave it to me. Unfortunately it had sat with fuel in the tank, basically ruining the bottom left half of the tank...But I didnt know at the time.

Within about 20 minutes of having it in the garage I had begun to take it apart.

Then It was time to re-build the carbs, get a new front tire, plug leads, ignition coil, battery, plugs, and just clean it up a bit. Finally got it all back together and ready to run, and filled it up with gas only to realize that there was a HOLE IN THE TANK. Okay, I was pretty upset, but hey, easy fix right?

A friend of mine suggested soldering the holes shut and bondo-ing over where he had tapped the metal down, cool right?

So, in the mean time I had bought an older 350 tank to run on it, only to find out that it was just as holy as the other one...I liked how it looked though.

But alas, it did not work. THEN, I got the tank back, and went to CRC2 here in indy to pick up some odds and ends, mainly a set of clubmans for it. Did a test fit and got the setting I liked most.

Then, Got them all fitted and right.

Then, went to my friend's house and decided to shave down the seat and wrap it all hillbilly style for now.

Then one night I couldn't sleep and decided to plasti-dip the tank. Not really for cosmetic reasons, but to preserve what was left of the finish on the tank. But the matte black kind of grew on me.

And this is basically where I am today, except after a few months of riding, the JB weld that was holding a couple pinholes closed gave way and opened the floodgates, and gas now just spews from it. I'm in process of looking for a new tank, maybe a 350, or 360 tank, as it's relatively hard to find a cb200 tank in my price range. My friend sent me a picture of it with a 350 tank on it, and let's just say I love it.

Future plans include
-Getting a new gas tank
-New suspension
-New brake light assembly/ turn signals
-rearsets
-New carbs?
-New exhaust
-Pod filters
-New rear tire
-Fairing?

Any opinions, criticisms, help, attaboys, or advice is greatly appreciated!

Good progress man! Where in Indy are you located? I am down on the southside. There are quite a few of us here on DTT that are spread around Indy.

I'm over on the west side, in Clermont, just west of Speedway!

Take the tank to a friend whos a compentent welder/fabricator. Its just metal, it can be fixed.

Unfortunately, no one I know is a professional welder, and they're worries about the thin gauge of the steel..

+1 Depending on the condition it may be a little work or a lot, but it can most likely be fixed.

I wouldn't mind taking a look at the tank to see how bad it is. If you want to email me some detailed pics at afslightom at gmail dot com. I might have a solution for you.

I'll try to swing by my buddy nicks place tonight to pick it up and get some pictures for it. I'm working until at least 8

Okay, all. I need to pick your brains. I have no idea how I'm going to paint my bike. I'm rather indecisive, but have been leaning toward a black/ dark green color scheme. Almost like a jaguar green. But I'm open to any new ideas, so let 'em fly!

Havent been able to do much with the bike the past few weeks due to tax time really heating up. I've been working about 60 hours a week. However I picked up a couple things from a buddy. It's some parts off of a seat out of an old sprint car. Considering making it into a seat pan and number plate. I'll upload pics when I get home!

Here's what i picked up. I really haven't decided what I'm going to do with it, if anything at all.. I'm considering a seat pan and number plate? Maybe some sort of small fairing?

I know know the user who owns that tank haha. I saw it when I was Moth's the other day lol.
