Cb200 Kickstart problems

So I have got a 74 cb200 and the kickstart is not quite right. When I go to start it I pull the clutch in and then kick the lever and it slides straight though without hooking on anything and not starting. But when I leave the clutch out and kick it hooks on something and will eventually start. So being the noob and not waiting to split the case and see what's broken. Do any of you out there have a guess at what needs to be fixed? Anything will help thanks.

Dear Kevin,
thats how it works on this bike, the kickstarts kicks the clutch, the clutch kicks the crank...voila!

If you pull the clutch it dont work....

i have a cb200 aswell. bike has to be in neutral to kick over, as anilv stated. electric starter will work with clutch pulled btw.

Let me get this right to kickstart this bike you have to leave clutch out and then kick while the bike is in neutral. Not pull clutch then kick while in neutral.
