Wiring is easy. You need to know wich wire does what and have some basic electrical knowledge. Don't think those bikes know better then you. You'll win, promise!
From the internet it's hard to determine the problem.
Problem i think of first is this:
Wiring is open. Plastic can be broken so copper hits the frame. That will pop a fuse immeditaly. It is not always, only when the wire hits the frame. This can happen when the bars are turned or something.
You say when you rev her the fuse pops. Wich one? Your Rectifier could be bad. I suggest upgrading to this;
