Cb200 starter/electrical problem

Not really a starter problem, maybe? A problem I inherited from the previous owner so it could just be a wire in the wrong place. My cb200 starts fine with the kick starter, the only way it starts with the starter is by crossing over the solenoid. When I hit the starter button the other lights go off like its going to work, but it doesn't. What are the positions on the ignition switch? For me currently its off, all on (and start), and rear light on (park?). Where to start? Thank you

I'm really interested in seeing if anyone with expertise chimes in on this one and I'll give it a bump. I have a similar problem with a cb350. (Except mine won't start with the kicker either, but I think that's a separate problem.) But when I hit the start button, the idiot light dims, but nothing else happens.

When I cross the solenoid, the starter goes. According to this post (http://en.allexperts.com/q/Motorcycle-Repair-837/2010/4/honda-cb350-starter.htm) that's supposed to mean that our solenoids are shot, but I'd like to get some confirmation on that. (I'm ordering another anyways.)

Also wondering if there's some new modern alternative to the solenoid, or if we have to go with whatever we find on ebay.

If you are jumping the solenoid and it works, it sounds like its bad.

- When you try to start it does the solenoid sound like it’s clicking or is it silent?
Also check all the wires to and from the starter button to solenoid and starter motor etc... make sure nothing is shorted out. In addition, check the fuse under the seat.

I had a similar problem last week. Ended up grabbing a new solenoid from Honda for $42. picked it up the very next day
