CB350 Built by a teen (Weld Now, Grind Later)

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (SO many parts in!)

even though i already rebuilt my transmission, i found a cb360 unit from a fellow member for a price i couldnt pass up...

WOOH, 6 speed in my 350! ;D

The shift drums are different and the CB360 wont work unless you do alot of custom machining and parts fab. A CB500/4 transmission will drop right into a CB350k bottom end....but the gear ratios are the same and also a 5 speed...so no real benefit. I personally have done the CB500 swap....to only realize ratios were the same. We had a good discussion about this over on the SOHC4 forums a few years ago......dont think anyone ever got the CB360 six speed to work in the CB350. You can read more at this link:

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

well thats a bummer... guess i have some work cut out for me!

also means ill have one that hasnt been done before!

jesus... 530 bucks for the airtech tank! she is pretty though... i guess im back to buying and modifying or making my own.

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

I understand the theory behind the 6 speed that you're going for David. The only problem though is that these motors are a little too anemic to really benefit from the 6th gear. My 360s have them, but they are still only pumping out 110 MPH tops, and you know how modified they are. I wonder how much of a benefit it would be to do a swap like that.....Other than just to say you did I mean.

my reasoning behind the 6 speed is to have a bike that is a little more highway rideable while still having the low end to puts around the street. seems the 6th gear is a bit lower a ratio then the 5th on the stock 350.

also the 6 speed was the good part about the 360... in my opinion the only part better then the 350 :D

and of course, some of it is bragging rights!

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

need my... bike... fix...

WHEN WILL THESE DAMN TOOLS/ PARTS ARRIVE!

shit, i just realized i need more blaster media... im going to try and find some low silica stuff... dont want silicosis.

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

had a great time last night, ended with me getting busted by rents for having smoked some cannabis. again. ::)

ill spare you guys the details, but yeah, project may be on hold for a little as my parents claimed they would hold my parts from me...

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

Priorities David. The bike you've always wanted, or wasting time getting high? You're just lucky you still have a bike.

i said i wouldnt post this week as im taking a respective moment of silence... but this is relevant to that silence.

i have quit smoking, drugs, and random nonsense as of yesterday. had a bit of a realization that put life into perspective for me. have a lot to build back up to respect wise, bur it will come in time.

time to get off the bench i guess.

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

tires in!

harbor freight order in!

bore-tech just charged my card, so i should be getting my cylinders back soon!

no work has been done as im busy with schoolwork and applying to colleges, and the only free time i had this week (today) was spent getting my snowboard tuned up for some shredding!

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

I've got plans to do a ~400cc bore on my 350 using a 360 six speed. I've had this idea in my head for a while and just came across this thread after asking PJ about it. I'll be ordering a complete trans/fork/drum setup and start modifying. I've got an extra case to use so I figure why not? I am expecting the Shafts and drum to be much wider than a 350's though. Or perhaps a CB360 case with a 450DOHC cylinder and head ;D

easy there tiger... this stuff is trickier then you think.

the shafts are just about the same width... havent tried dropping it in yet (been busy) but it should fit as if it was factory. its the shift drums and things that are tricky..

400cc bore? it can be done but not on stock liners. as for putting cb350 head on 360 cylinders... i havent heard of anyone doing it succesfully.

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

work time....

i think im going to mount up the lower cases in the frame, attach swingarm and rear wheel, and run the chain to check clearances on the suspension, and chain to swingarm clearance.

Oooh, Pretty tools!

Slammed, for ultimate performance ;) :D

Thats better.

Braced swinger looks good!

PC180316.jpg

Hmm, gonna have to find a good machine shop to get this cb360 transmission to fit....
PC180318.jpg

Shit, clearance is tight... will probably rub. trying to decide if i Slot the brace (hard) or just run larger gearing front and back (easy, plus it means less wear on driveline components

Nothing like some dirt to go with a ham, egg, and swiss cheese bagel!

Oh lawdy... ive done it now! dumb die grinder of mine making me polish my crankcase... I did it to see if i would like it... sadly, I do. :D :D

I really needed to do that mock-up... had been feeling like i havent gotten anything done on bike lately as all ive been doing is cleaning! now im inspired...

oh, and thats the stock tire from 1971! not a crack on her. so, shes staying on there... for about a day. have to get a good burn-out shot! and no way im using my new avons... :D :D

looking great!!!!love the stance!

thanks man! itll be about a half inch higher in the rear (3/4 inch over stock or so), as i dont have bushings installed its sitting low. the front will be about an inch lower then stock, so it may be just a bit more aggresive then the pic shows ;D

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

no update, but i have a week off ahead of me to get a crapload done! also my cylinders should be in this week... i am really hoping to lay some paint, but then id have to use my cb350 tranny instead of the 6 speed 360 tranny, as i have some time until i can get measurements on how to machine the cases.

i might just grab an extra set of cb350 cases and use those to test fit etc, then once i get it right i can simply machine my 350 cases to match...

sure, it would mean taking the motor out again, but i want to ride! :D

Re: CB350 Built by a teen (6 speed?)

Just use the CB350 tranny......you will be more than happy with it.

Good job on the swingarm bracing.
